College Commitment – Chance White (2024 Roosevelt/Lower Columbia)
OIT has made recruiting the state their backbone - and that isn't limited to guys right out of high school. The Hustlin' Owls continue to follow former Oregon Preps after they've moved on to the college level, and that's exactly what they did with Chance White. The 2024 Roosevelt graduate went the JUCO route after leaving the Roughriders, spending this past season at Lower Columbia in Washington, and he's now headed to Klamath Falls after accepting an offer from OIT and taking a trip to campus.
"I didn't know much about Klamath before taking my visit, but I knew it was the right place for me after seeing the programs history and how successful coach (Justin) Parnell has been makes you trust him and his staff," White said. "The school itself is known for its good education and that also played a big part for me in my decision. I'm also excited to play in front of the home crowd - big part in why I committed as well."
There was a lot to like for White at OIT and he certainly liked the match on the basketball floor and the role he'll play in next year's backcourt - which will be alongside former Roosevelt teammate Owen Nathan. "I think I fit well with this programs play style, I'll be able to create for myself at will and get others involved," White said. "And Owen is an absolute pest on the court and has an incredible knack for the ball. I think with our chemistry we can be scary on both sides of the ball together."
The offer from OIT for White came after a sophomore at Lower Columbia where he posted 9.0 points per game, showing off some of the explosive scoring ability he exhibited in high school. He transferred to Lower Columbia from Lamar CC in Colorado, where he averaged 18.7 points per game - and White is thankful for how he's developed his game these past two seasons.
"My freshman year of college was really great I learned a lot and made some huge leaps in my games, put up good numbers all year and played really good competition," White said. "I really saw my confidence shoot up more. My sophomore year at LCC was a great learning experience stepping into a different role on a winning team. It was definitely challenging for me but I think I learned a lot about myself mentally and I feel like my game now is more well rounded in all aspects of the game besides scoring at a high level. I feel much smarter on the court."
Our congratulations go out to White and his family on his commitment.
