College Commitment – Cade Hartenstein (2026 Westside Christian)
When we caught up with Cade Hartenstein at the Mid-Major Classic, the senior was still looking for his college home. In fact, the Westside Christian star was looking at all possibilities, including ones in Southern California. But when it call came down it, the fit was right here at home and last week the talented guard decided he will take his talents to Newberg and George Fox University.
"I felt like GFU was the right place for me because it checked all the boxes both on and off the court," Hartenstein said. "Coach Maco (Hamilton) made me feel at home and he was really genuine with his belief in me and made it clear how I could come in and compete right away. I also love the culture they're building and how competitive the environment is. As a school, George Fox stood out to me because of the strong academics and the overall community. It's just a really good place to be."
"I did look at some opportunities down in California, but in the end, staying closer to home felt like the best decision for me," Hartenstein continued. "Being near family and having that support system means a lot. I look forward to continuing my basketball career and I am excited to get after it."
Hartenstein detailed how he plans on melding in with the Bruins on the court. "For sure I see myself being able to fit in with the style of play great," Hartenstein said. "They like to play fast and play really good on ball defense and I think transition especially I can really help out and excel in that area. I see myself being able to come in and compete for minutes at the guard position but ultimately that is up to the coaches and I just want to come in every day and work hard and compete."
The college level will be a step up for Hartenstein but he's ready for the challenge. "I think really for me I'm just going to work on rounding out my game," Hartenstein said. "Consistency in my jumper, effective quick drives looking to score and create for others and really just learning how to adjust to the physicality and mental aspects of the game at the college level."
Our congratulations go out to Hartenstein and his family on his decision.
