College Commitment – Aaidyn Bokuro (2026 Newport)
When it came to pursuing an opportunity at the college level, Aaidyn Bokuro had some interest from some in-state schools. But the athletic 6-foot-2 guard from Newport was looking to expand his horizons. He started reaching out to some out-of-state schools and one of them liked the film that they saw. The connection was made, Bokuro made a trip down to see the campus and participate in an open gym, and the next thing you know the senior decided that Redlands was the right place for him.
"I chose Redlands because it felt like the best overall fit for me academically and athletically," Bokuro said. "I really liked the family aspect of the program and the environment there, it felt like a place I can grow and be comfortable long term. They play a fast-paced style that fits my game well, and as a downhill guard like myself I am really excited to fit into a system like Redlands."
Bokuro is the latest Oregonian to head to the University of Redlands, a SCIAC conference champion who has been a West Coast D-III power for several years under head coach Eric Bridgeland. There's no question moving to one of the nation's top teams last season will require a transition from the 4A level - even from the state's player of that year in that classification that averaged 18.6 points, 8.8 rebounds, 5.1 assists, and 3.3 steals - but Bokuro is up to the challenge.
"The biggest thing I need to improve is my strength so I can handle the physicality at the next level," Bokuru said. I'm also working on being more consistent with my decision-making."
Our congratulations go out to Bokuro and his family on his commitment.
