The Big Shots Palmetto State Showcase continued to provide plenty of intrigue beyond the guard play, as a number of wings and bigs used the weekend to make strong early impressions. Length, versatility, motor, and physical tools were on display throughout the event, with several prospects showing the ability to impact the game in a variety of ways. Whether it was through rebounding, rim protection, floor spacing, or two-way versatility, this group gave plenty to evaluate and added another layer of talent to a strong opening event of the season.

[player_tooltip player_id='3583779' first='Zi'Here' last='McCall'] leads off the bigs and wings to know from the Big Shots Palmetto State Showcase. He was someone whom I had circled in my head to keep an eye on after a strong junior season at Dillon High School. McCall is definitely a score-first guard who is comfortable hitting shots off the dribble. He has a little bit of shift in his game, which helps him beat his man and get to his spots in the mid-range. Zi'Here finished with 7 points, 3 assists, and 3 steals in a win over SPE 2027.

Fresh off a State Championship title with Philip Simmons, Mevold is back with [program_tooltip program_id='2842739' first='843' last='Tough'] this AAU season. I got to watch Jack and company in both games on Saturday, and he was their leading scorer in both games. He averaged 12.5 points between the two games, showcasing an ability to get to the rim off the dribble, work from the post with his back to the basket, or even stretch the floor with catch-and-shoot threes. This squad has a little bit more size this year, so look for Jack to have some big games in his more natural position.

There are some similarities between Goade and Mevold when you look at size, skill, and scheme fit. Charles had a big game in their first game of the day, putting up 10 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 assists. It's very much a team effort on this glass for Play Tough's 2028 group, but Charles will often be the one leading the team and be the one who has production in the second-chance department. Goade also has some skill in driving the ball and is a solid passer for his position, but he will be most effective with his foundation in the post working smaller fours.

First up of two [program_tooltip program_id='2231960' first='Big' last='Shots SC'] Premier 2029's who caught my eye in Columbia is [player_tooltip player_id='3582723' first='Owen' last='Cutcliff']. Cutcliff is a very intriguing prospect who has some potential as a wing, but right now, his size makes him effective around the rim. He blocked three shots in Premier's second game of the day, showcased some excellent feet in the pick-and-roll, and was an active talker on the defensive end. However, the intrigue comes in with his shooting, as he spaces the floor off the catch and could develop into a guy who can handle it to attack the paint.

Thomas is the other Premier 2029 player who caught my eye. He is definitely more of a wing at this point, with impressive size and movement skills for his age. Lee showed out with an ability to finish with either hand, creativity in getting to the rim, and some activity on multiple levels of the defensive end. He is definitely going to be a versatile piece going forward, but his physical growth and perimeter shot-making will determine just how far he can go.

Rounding out the list is a true under-the-radar prospect in the freshman class. I learned the name [player_tooltip player_id='3583796' first='Damarcus' last='Brockington'] for the first time in Columbia, and he could be one with a bright future down in Hemingway. Team SPE had a very tough first matchup, but Brockington was ready to play and certainly fit in against some elite competition. He had to do it all for his squad - clean the glass, block shots, and create his own shots off the dribble. He had 12 of the team's 20 points to go along with 5 rebounds, 3 blocks, and 2 steals when he was subbed out for the final time.
