Next up on the list is one of the biggest fall stock risers in the state. Mevold has been a hot prospect on the recruiting front because he has played a lot of basketball to continue putting himself in front of the right people and build up his highlight reels. Jack is an excellent modern-day forward, with terrific feet and feel in the post, and a consistent perimeter stroke to space the floor and keep defenses off balance.

Mevold is a strong-bodied forward who showed that he can play both inside and out. He scored effectively around the basket and used his physicality to create scoring opportunities on the interior. Mevold put together another strong showing in the Mountain State after making the trip up a few weeks ago for the West Liberty Elite Camp. Any small-college program in need of forward depth should have Jack Mevold on its recruiting radar.

Mevold is an undersized forward with a physical frame who excels playing below the rim. He has nice touch and footwork around the basket and can be very difficult to stop once he gets a defender sealed on the block. Mevold is also an effective trailer in the half-court and does a nice job putting himself in position for easy scoring opportunities. He consistently finds different ways to impact the game and brings a physical presence to the floor.

Jack Mevold Jack Mevold 6'5" | SF/PF Philip Simmons | 2027 State SC rounds out this list of names gaining recruiting steam. Jack has had a busy stretch dating back to the high school season, winning the 2A State Championship with Philip Simmons then getting straight into camp season out of a good year with Play Tough. Mevold holds two offers from Oberlin and Gordon, but has also taken a handful of visits to other schools who are interested.

Fresh off a State Championship title with Philip Simmons, Mevold is back with 843 Tough this AAU season. I got to watch Jack and company in both games on Saturday, and he was their leading scorer in both games. He averaged 12.5 points between the two games, showcasing an ability to get to the rim off the dribble, work from the post with his back to the basket, or even stretch the floor with catch-and-shoot threes. This squad has a little bit more size this year, so look for Jack to have some big games in his more natural position.

Jack Mevold Jack Mevold 6'5" | SF/PF Philip Simmons | 2027 State SC leads off my list of unsung heroes from the 2025-26 SCHSL State Championships. Jack took part in the first State Championship Game on Thursday afternoon, helping lead Philip Simmons to their first-ever crown. Mevold quietly became one of the most proficient post scorers in the Lowcountry in his junior season, and it was something the Iron Horses counted on often. He isn’t a dominant rebounder or shot-blocker because of a lack of athleticism, but he is excellent positionally and makes up for his deficiencies with textbook fundamentals. Jack had to navigate some early foul trouble, but when he did, his team was simply better when he was on the floor. Look for him to build on a successful high school season with a standout AAU season for 843 Tough .
