Fresh off a State Championship title with Philip Simmons, Mevold is back with 843 Tough this AAU season. I got to watch Jack and company in both games on Saturday, and he was their leading scorer in both games. He averaged 12.5 points between the two games, showcasing an ability to get to the rim off the dribble, work from the post with his back to the basket, or even stretch the floor with catch-and-shoot threes. This squad has a little bit more size this year, so look for Jack to have some big games in his more natural position.

Jack took part in the first State Championship Game on Thursday afternoon, helping lead Philip Simmons to their first-ever crown. Mevold quietly became one of the most proficient post scorers in the Lowcountry in his junior season, and it was something the Iron Horses counted on often. He isn’t a dominant rebounder or shot-blocker because of a lack of athleticism, but he is excellent positionally and makes up for his deficiencies with textbook fundamentals. Jack had to navigate some early foul trouble, but when he did, his team was simply better when he was on the floor. Look for him to build on a successful high school season with a standout AAU season for 843 Tough .
