8 New Names to Monitor from Phenom Queen City

The event brought together a strong mix of talent from across the Carolinas and beyond, creating a competitive atmosphere with plenty of opportunity for players to make an impression, and while some familiar names continued to produce, this setting always seems to uncover fresh talent. Here are eight new names that showed they're worth monitoring moving forward.    Headlining my list of New Names to Monitor from Phenom Queen City is [player_tooltip player_id='3597193' first='Miles' last='Fullen']. Fullen is one of several elite young prospects at Wando High School, but I got to see him at his best this weekend with Rock Nation 15U. He caught fire in game two, going for 21 points, including 4 3PM in a five-minute stretch. Miles can hit catch-and-shoot threes on the wings or have actions run to get him looks on the move. However, he also proved to be more than just a spot-up option, as he had a few nice finishes at the rim plus 4 assists.     This 2029 guard has the chance to be an excellent one down the line in North Carolina. He was a huge piece in [program_tooltip program_id='2830220' first='Palmetto' last='Pride']'s run to the 15U Championship, including a 15-point game in a blowout win over WBC. Although he showed a high-level feel for putting the ball in the basket and tons of craft in attack mode, Purnell proved to be more than just a scorer as he racked up 7 assists. Will has a knack for finding his teammates with dump-off passes, but he is also unselfish in transition to make the extra pass for an easier shot.     Gadson has been off to an excellent spring season with [program_tooltip program_id='2078521' first='Palmetto' last='City Hurricanes'], and he was back at it this weekend in Rock Hill. On Saturday, he had the game-winning free-throw in overtime, then followed it up with 12 points and 4 rebounds in a tight round-two loss. It is easy to see the skill he has on the offensive end, whether he's creating shots for himself or attacking in transition. Jaden was comfortable in the mid-range and has solid length to finish over people at the rim. As he continues to grow physically and stretch out his game to the perimeter, Gadson could be a really solid player out of the Columbia area.     Another PCH player who made a name for himself at the Phenom Queen City Showcase is Sumpter. Kayden simply makes good things happen when he's on the floor. Whether that is attacking the paint, working from the post, or creating defensive havoc, Sumpter is a true winning player. He had 12 points, 5 assists, 3 steals, and 2 blocks in a matchup with Warriors Elite on Saturday, and he was easily the biggest plus in a PCH jersey. This squad got off to an excellent start this season, but look for Kayden to continue to be a huge factor in their success.     On the defensive end of the floor, not many new names stood out more than [player_tooltip player_id='3597224' first='Bralen' last='Swindler']. Standing at 6'3" with tons of length and athleticism, Bralen was fantastic on the glass, active in passing lanes, and contested or blocked several shots. He also had one of the highlight plays of the day, creating a steal and then turning it into a poster on the other end. Bralen's 16 points, 12 rebounds, 2 blocks, and 2 steals was also one of the best stat lines of the day in the 16U division. His jumper and handle still need some work, but it's hard to teach the defensive buy-in and physical tools that Swindler has.     Speaking of new names with intriguing physical tools, Davey fits that mold with [program_tooltip program_id='2830220' first='Palmetto' last='Pride'] 16U. He was a really solid piece off their bench in a matchup with HYAA Elite, collecting 7 points, 7 rebounds, and 1 block in the win. He had a pair of offensive put-backs mixed in with a dunk off a strong rim run, and he overall didn't show too many weaknesses when he was on the floor. I'm interested to see how Green progresses this spring and what he looks like when he returns to South Florence in June.     A local 2028 who caught my eye this weekend in Rock Hill was Lineberger. Also a football player at Lancaster HS, Terrion has an excellent frame to move bodies and play through contact in the paint. However, he isn't just a bruiser. Lineberger has some skill to move well and handle the ball in spots. Despite being a PF by trade, Terrion's fingerprints seemed to be all over the game, as he went for 19 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 blocks, and 2 steals.     [player_tooltip player_id='3597233' first='Aaron' last='Mitchell'] caps off my list of New Names to Monitor from the Phenom Queen City Showcase. I didn't get to see Georgetown in person this season, so Aaron was a pleasant surprise for me with this [program_tooltip program_id='2412982' first='Upward' last='Stars Pee Dee'] 17U group. He stepped up off the bench with winning plays in a matchup with Cap City, doing a little bit of everything to help his team out. Mitchell pulled out a few offensive rebounds, hit jumpers on the outside, and was a plus on the defensive end - all of which could intrigue a college coach once the live periods begin.
