Who were the breakout prospects at the IHSA State Finals over the weekend? These unranked prospects will not be for very much longer after the way they played in Champaign!

DJ Laye (Marshall – 2028)

Laye had a breakout game in the 1A state championship as the 5'11” point guard went for 30 points (11-17 FG) (8-11 FT), 7 rebounds, 6 steals, and 2 dimes. He is a dynamic slashing lead guard slithering through the traffic over and over again for scores in the paint on euro steps, strong rips, and spinning layups. Consistently created havoc on the defensive end getting turnovers and turning them into points on the other end. Excellent transition scorer that has body control around the rim. Look for him to make a nice debut in our market correction update in the next couple weeks.

[player_tooltip player_id='2827104' first='Rayvon' last='Myles'] (Marshall – 2027)

Marshall is a 6'1” point guard that is a monster on the defensive end. Completely changed the state championship game with the way he pressured the ball creating turnovers for points on the other end. He had 6 points, 4 rebounds, and 7 steals. Also shined in the semis going for 13 points showing a good passing feel along with creativity scoring in the paint on sweeping layups and floaters.

Quinton Gibson Jr (Marshall – 2026)

Gibson had a major impact in their semi final victory scoring 20 points. Long and angular 6'2” small forward plays taller than his height. Rim runs in the open floor, finishes out of the dunker spot, and a sweet turn around jumper. High-energy small college or JUCO guy!

Lawson Land (Goreville – 2027)

The Goreville 6'2” guard will be a nice piece for them to build around along with King next season. He had a quality showing in the championship game where he was assertive early taking it to the rim finishing with either hand while scoring 10 points.

Jace Allensworth (Quincy Notre Dame – 2026)

Allensworth is a Quincy commit that I got to see for the first time at state. The 6'3” small forward is a crafty ball handler that can score on the move with baseline takes, spinning layups, and high/low seals. He also has a nice mid-range game. Does most of his damage in the post. In the semis he had 16 points and in the championship he dropped 21 points.

[player_tooltip player_id='2917031' first='TJ' last='Togarepi'] (Quincy Notre Dame – 2028)

The sophomore guard is a high IQ lefty that has crisp handles and makes good decisions with the ball in his hands. Solid passer and overall playmaker that will be the next star at QND!

[player_tooltip player_id='2393974' first='Evan' last='Frieders'] (Kaneland – 2026)

Frieders has come on strong for Kaneland as a three and D senior wing that should find a home at the small college or JUCO level. Sound three point shooter off the catch that can let it fly along with being impactful getting into the body of wings or being disruptive in passing lanes. He had 10 points in their semifinal loss.

[player_tooltip player_id='2403346' first='Drew' last='Schnurman'] (Deerfield – 2029)

Schnurman put his name on the map in the semis against Kaneland as he was a spark off the bench for Deerfield. He poured in three triples for 9 points. Promising future for the freshman.

Emaurion Jackson (East St. Louis – 2029)

Jackson goes 6'4” with a long and projectable frame. What we liked about him in the semis was how he played his game getting on the offensive glass, slashing for an and-1, and hit a nice pull up jumper. The Flyers needed some more juice after the Big 3 in that game and he brought it notching 9 points (3-5 FG).

[player_tooltip player_id='2532329' first='Jeremiah' last='Echols'] (Leo – 2027)

Echols banged in a pair of threes in their semi final loss to East St. Louis. Coming off a strong close to the season this Leo guard is one to track in the spring and summer as he had 8 points.
