Most Outstanding Player: 2026 [player_tooltip player_id='1907683' first='Hunter' last='Horn'] (St. Edmond)
Stats: 21.7 points, 10 rebounds, 1.7 blocks, 47.7 FG%

Though it took him a game to get comfortable inside the Casey's Center, Horn showed why he was the guy for the Gaels his senior year, hitting shot after shot that only further put the hammer down that St. Edmond was the team to beat in 1A -- something nobody could do. Horn, a 6-foot-5 small forward, was also a monster on the boards for the 1A champions, as the only player in the class to average a double-double in the state tournament.

The reason I previously picked the Nikes to win the state title, [player_tooltip player_id='1978106' first='Shay' last='Stephens'] showed up in a way only he could for Butlington Notre Dame. Particularly dominant in the first half of the quarterfinals, the Western Illinois could do no wrong. Hitting threes, attacking the basket, grabbing rebounds and dishing out assists, Stephens looked like the future Division I hooper that he is.

2027 [player_tooltip player_id='2906540' first='Louis' last='Gonner'] (Marquette Catholic)
Stats: 11.3 points, 4.3 assists, 52.4 FG%, 50% 3PT%

The straw that stirred the drink for the Defenders, Gonner played like at an elite level, especially in the last few minutes of the quarters and semis, not only getting to the foul line and knocking down shots, but scoring from the field, as well. If it weren't for Stephens, Gonner would've looked like the best point guard in the tournament -- far and away. He's a major reason why Marquette Catholic will be a team to watch once again next year.

2026 [player_tooltip player_id='2517050' first='Carson' last='Bargfrede'] (St. Edmond)
Stats: 14.7 points, 5.3 rebounds, 3 assists, 37.5 FG%, 78.6 FT%

The Robin to Horn's Batman, [player_tooltip player_id='2517050' first='Carson' last='Bargfrede'] wasn't uber efficient from the field, but he backed up the Gaels' star with some scoring of his own from the wing. A better shooter than his percentage indicates, Bargfrede didn't lose confidence and kept firing, serving as the secondary scorer for the state champion.

2026 Justin Severson (Marquette Catholic)
Stats: 10.7 points, 9.3 rebounds, 68.4 FG%

One of the more dominant forwards of the tournament, Severson was as close as anyone else could get to averaging a double-double behind Horn. Getting not only layups to go against bigger, better athletes with foot work around the rim, Severson also knew how to throw his weight around to grab rebounds. Finishing with an elite field goal percentage, the Defenders may have been better served to go to him more last week.
