Performers of the Game- Cardinal Ritter vs Tri-West

This was a very entertaining game!! Both teams were represented by players worthy of being highlighted in this piece. These young men stood above the rest in Friday night's game.    Devin is a player who showed a variety of skills on the basketball court. When I watched him play Friday evening, he literally did everything for Cardinal Ritter. Devin's an excellent rebounder who dominated the boards on offense and defense. The majority of his points came from grabbing offensive rebounds. He's a skilled post player who used his size to take advantage of smaller defenders in the paint. On some occasions he showed his versatility by attacking defenders off the dribble and making crisp passes. When Cardinal Ritter had opportunities to score in transition, he finished strong at the rim. Rebounding and shot-blocking are a major strength of his game. Most of the rebounds he grabbed led to outlet passes or second chance scoring opportunities. Devin is a great player who has a chance of becoming elite with continued growth and maturity.     Cheick is a great two-way player who excelled on both sides of the basketball. Offensively, he's a great ball handler who scores, rebounds and defends. In his isolated match-ups, Cheick easily beat Tri-West defenders to the basket. The majority of his slashes led to tough scores at he basket. ( some through contact ) He's an excellent free-throw shooter who converted all his three-point play opportunities. Cheick can also knock down mid-range jump-shots. I watched him make a variety of shots regardless of who defended him. He's also capable of extending his range beyond the three point line. He converted two in the match-up against Tri-West. Defensively, he was great at pressuring opposing ball handlers. His tenaciousness forced numerous turnovers that led to positive outcomes for Cardinal Ritter. Cheick is a talented all-around player who could easily adjust to the college basketball scene.     This young man literally does everything well on the basketball court. He attacks the basket, knocks down jump-shots, rebounds and defends at a high level. There were instances in the game where he broke down an opponent, got into the lane and scored tough baskets through contact. Some of those scores led to three-point play opportunities from the foul-line. Davier is a great rebounder who played fearless in the paint. Whenever Cardinal Ritter ran the court, Davier easily scored in transition. He's a hardworking player who made all the positive plays needed to help the team win. Defensively is where he shined most. His on-ball pressure and anticipation forced numerous steals throughout the game. He's a great team player who plays a vital role to the success of Cardinal Ritter.     Daniel is a great overall player who does everything on the basketball court. This is my second write up for Daniel. He continues to be a excellent "floor general" who makes winning plays for Tri-West. Whether it was scoring, assisting, rebounding or defending, Daniel was a constant threat to the Cardinal Ritter defense. He's a natural play-maker who excels at involving his teammates offensively. Daniel finished the game as the team leader in assists. In the first half of play, he facilitated the basketball. As the game went on, Daniel eventually picked up his scoring. He's great at breaking down defenders, getting into the paint and scoring tough baskets. He also knocks down mid-range shots and grabs rebounds. Daniel had no problems battling opposing players in the paint. On defense, he excelled at turning over the Cardinal Ritter guards. A number of the steals led to transition scores for other Tri-West players. Daniel has the talent to become a major focal point for Tri-West in the coming years.     He's a high energy player who made plays on offense and defense. Parker was excellent at scoring in the paint. The majority of his points came off hustle plays and offensive put-backs around the rim. He's a great rebounder who dominated the glass on both ends of the court. Parker didn't mind battling opposing players for rebounds in the paint. He did all the necessary things needed to help Tri-West defeat Cardinal Ritter. He excelled at setting screens, drawing charges and taking advantage of smaller defenders in the paint. On defense, he's an excellent shot-blocker. Parker turned away four different players when they attacked the basket. He's a great teammate who does what's necessary to help the team win. Once he polishes his game offensively, the sky's the limit for this young man.     Ryan is a tough shooting guard who showed the ability to be a big time scorer. He's very effective on the offensive side of the basketball. On Friday, I watched a player who could score from every level of the basketball court. Whether it was attacking the paint, knocking down mid-range jumpers or extending his range beyond the three-point line, Ryan was a tough cover for the opposition. He's a great on the ball defender who pressed Cardinal Ritter guards into turnovers. Ryan was the team's leading scorer for the regular season. He had a clutch moment in the game against Cardinal Ritter. Ryan knocked down the go-ahead three pointer that gave Tri-West the win. I believe he's a player who could catch fire and become a major problem for opposing players and coaches. Ryan has an aggressive mentality that could take him far in the game of basketball. He finished with 20 points and 5 three-point field goals.
