On the Missouri side of the state line, several district champions were crowned on Saturday as teams battled for the chance to keep their postseason runs alive. With district titles now decided, the focus quickly shifts to the next stage of the playoffs.

Let's break down the teams that were able to move on, what worked well for them in district play, and how they were able to separate themselves. We'll also take a look ahead at the upcoming sectional matchups and what each team will need to do to keep their season going.

Class 6, District 8 | Oak Park 58, North Kansas City 49

Oak Park made it three straight district championships with a win over North Kansas City in the title game. Experience and toughness have become staples of the Northmen program over the last few years, and this run through districts was another example of why.

Throughout the tournament, Oak Park received contributions from nearly everyone in the rotation. The usual standouts, [player_tooltip player_id='1850444' first='Josh' last='Kori'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1850445' first='Adam' last='Tanner'], once again made their presence felt, impacting the game as they so often do in a multitude of different areas. Tanner was especially decisive with the ball in his hands, consistently carving up defenses and creating scoring opportunities not only for himself but for his teammates. Kori's size and athleticism were also effective, as he continues to present difficult matchup problems for opposing teams.

Oak Park was able to get out and run, something that's been part of their formula in recent seasons. Their defense created those opportunities, forcing turnovers and allowing them to play with pace in transition.

[player_tooltip player_id='2719502' first='Howard' last='Chase'] and Alfonso Fincher played important roles as well, both shooting the ball well throughout districts and providing some much-needed secondary scoring. Each brought energy on both ends of the floor and looked fresh and locked in. [player_tooltip player_id='1850452' first='Landon' last='Van Pelt'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2952093' first='Jakaya' last='Duff'] also had their moments, using their size effectively against smaller opponents and adding another physical element to the lineup. Specifically, Oak Park did a great job getting Van Pelt the ball rolling to the rim or in areas of the floor where help was removed or late.

Up next, the Northmen will face Blue Springs South, a team they've had success against in recent matchups. In this one, it wouldn't be surprising to see Oak Park lean into their size advantage while once again emphasizing their defensive intensity. If they're able to apply consistent pressure and make the Jaguars' guards uncomfortable, it could play right into Oak Park's strengths. Establishing Van Pelt early on could also pay off and force the Jaguars to make some difficult decisions on how they want to defend the Northmen.

Class 6, District 7 | Blue Springs South 69, Battle 65

If there's a team around the Kansas City area playing better than Blue Springs South right now, it would be tough to find them. After taking care of Hickman and Blue Springs earlier in the week, the Jaguars capped off their district run by grinding out a tough championship win against a very talented Battle squad.

One of the biggest keys to their success throughout the week was their shooting. Blue Springs South knocked down a high number of threes, especially in the title game, with contributions coming from multiple players. That balance across the roster allows them to really stretch defenses and makes them difficult to guard when they're in rhythm.

The Jaguars are very guard-heavy, and they have several players capable of stepping up and generating offense. [player_tooltip player_id='2114716' first='Blayne' last='Marshall'], AC Rollins, [player_tooltip player_id='1850446' first='Chris' last='Ellis'], and [player_tooltip player_id='2846967' first='Maksim' last='Hymiller'] have all played key roles in the run, each bringing a different element to the backcourt. Cooper Callahan has also taken a big step recently, providing some strong production during the district tournament.

Ellis and Hymiller continue to shoot the ball well and can provide quick bursts of offense when they get going, while Marshall has remained aggressive on both ends of the floor — making an impact as an active defender and as a driver attacking the basket. Rollins also made a number of key plays throughout districts, including a strong performance in the championship against Battle. He did a nice job of balancing his responsibilities, looking for his own offense at times while still controlling the flow and running the team.

If Rollins can continue to attack off the dribble and knock down shots from the perimeter, it opens up even more space for everyone else on the floor. That would allow Marshall, Ellis, and Hymiller to find more traditional one-on-one opportunities or chances to attack closeouts in space, where they can use their skill and quickness to create offense.

Looking ahead to their matchup with Oak Park, Blue Springs South will likely need to lean into what they do best. If they can spread the floor and play with pace, it could help strengthen their chances. They also have the depth at guard to throw multiple defenders at Oak Park's perimeter players. The biggest challenge will be finding creative ways defensively to deal with Oak Park's size and presence inside.

Class 6, District 6 | Rockhurst 60, Lee's Summit 46

The district tournament — and this game in particular — said a lot about Rockhurst and the level they've played at all season. After wins over Carthage and Summit Christian earlier in the week, the Hawklets matched up with a Lee's Summit team that has had a tremendous season and played at a very high level. But from the start, and especially in the second half, Rockhurst largely controlled the game.

One of the biggest reasons for that control is their defense. Rockhurst has the ability to completely shut teams down for stretches, and Lee's Summit experienced that at several points in the game. The Hawklets' size and length across the roster make it extremely difficult for opponents to find consistent openings. They play connected on the defensive end, rotate well, and force teams into tough shots over length or through heavy contact.

Offensively, they play with a strong sense of unselfishness as a group. Rockhurst has several players capable of taking over a game, but they consistently focus on making the right play. The ball moves well, players trust one another, and as a result the offense usually finds quality looks. The Hawklets also do a good job of identifying mismatches and exploiting them whenever the opportunity presents itself.

[player_tooltip player_id='2346142' first='Kevin' last='Sullivan'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2205734' first='Kemper' last='Roberts'] led the way throughout district play, with Sullivan delivering a dominant performance in the championship. His size was a major factor, but it's his versatility that really makes him difficult to defend. Sullivan can score both inside and out, sees the floor extremely well, and is more than willing to move the ball when defenses collapse on him. The physical style that Sullivan plays with — and fully embraces — often makes opponents uncomfortable and forces them to match a level of toughness that many teams struggle to maintain.

Roberts, who played extremely well in the semifinal win over Summit Christian, adds another major weapon with his shooting ability and size on the wing. Hueston Saunders provides a strong presence inside, while [player_tooltip player_id='2090487' first='Cohen' last='Robinson'] helps guide the offense and keep things organized.

Robinson is more than just a facilitator, though — don't sleep on him as a shooter and scorer. He's very capable of stepping up and producing offensively when the opportunity presents itself. As a left-handed perimeter player with good size, he brings a crafty element to the floor and has the ability to see over the defense, which allows him to make smart reads and create opportunities for both himself and his teammates.

All of those pieces together make Rockhurst a very difficult team to prepare for.

Their next challenge will come in sectionals against Kickapoo, which could very well be the toughest opponent the Hawklets have faced all season. [player_tooltip player_id='1872262' first='Reese' last='Kimrey'] will lead the attack for Kickapoo, and containing him will be a major priority. If Rockhurst can limit his impact and force others to step up, it should put them in a strong position.
