This high school basketball season has been one for the books. 2026 has certainly left its mark on the scene as the graduating seniors, but the class of 2027 has been one of the biggest needle movers especially in Houston. Let's look at some of the 2027 guards who made their mark on me this year and should be added to college radars around the state!

Tyson has been one of the most dynamic guards in the 2027 Houston class this season. He began district with a string of 40-point games and College Park has shown time & time again that they are comfortable trusting him in the clutch moments of the game. He shoots well off the pull up and stays calm and poised under pressure from the point guard slot. Look for him to continue making big time plays going into this summer and his senior season. Tyson played with the Gulf Coast Blue Chips last summer.

[player_tooltip player_id='2198640' first='Gavin' last='Green'] is a standout guard for Covenant Prep this season and he has continued his high momentum play from Fam Elite last summer into the school year. The Knights have come away with a 30-2 record this year and Green continues to dazzle heads at the point guard slot. Green's most recent playoff game he had included a stat line of 18 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, and 4 steals. This shows that Gavin contributes to the box score in every way possible while he is on the court and he is a big difference maker on the floor for Covenant.

One of the stronger defensive guards I have had my eye on this year, Dillon constantly makes plays with his physical perimeter defense, and this allows North Shore to score in transition and on fastbreaks consistently. Colbert makes defenses pay when left open from range and can bury jump shots in the midrange as well off the dribble. He also shoots efficiently in the paint with good floaters and finishing under the basket. Standing at about 6'3, Dillon also has height and length to block opponent's perimeter shots and play passing lanes well. Colbert is currently uncommitted for AAU this grassroots season.

[player_tooltip player_id='2557514' first='Cash' last='Davis'] is a guard from Foster HS who consistently delivers double-digit scoring outings and can stretch the defense from the outside. Davis is comfortable helping to handle the ball up the court under pressure and in a backcourt offense. Cash has good hustle for loose balls and can confuse defenders with his constant off ball movement and P&R awareness. Continuing his high momentum play from Texas Takeover last summer, he will look to put up huge numbers and get exposure this summer with [program_tooltip program_id='2078792' first='RL9' last=''] Academy.

I've only gotten a chance to watch Josiah once this school year, but he showed high IQ and playmaking ability at the combo guard slot. His skills involve good court awareness and always knowing where his teammates are on offense. His defensive aggressiveness is also key to causing the opponent to rack up turnovers and help his team convert on fastbreaks. He was a huge component of Houston Christian coming away with a 35-1 record this season. Jojo will continue this grassroots season with [program_tooltip program_id='2078792' first='RL9' last=''] Academy as an experienced guard on the team
