In terms of pure product on the floor, Friday night's 5A Division 2 matchup between Westwood and Greenville was easily the game I was most looking forward to. With star power like [player_tooltip player_id='2078979' first='D'Marcus' last='Thomas'], [player_tooltip player_id='2447621' first='Jayden' last='Crews'], [player_tooltip player_id='1624061' first='Caden' last='Coleman'], and [player_tooltip player_id='2027918' first='Tucker' last='Scholl'], it lived up to the hype, too. The defending champions came out and threw the first punch, opening the game on a 13-4 run thanks to early scoring from Scholl, Coleman, and [player_tooltip player_id='2469370' first='Keshun' last='McCoy']. Crews ignited a 6-0 run for the Redhawks to get back into it, but Westwood really turned it on with a 13-4 run of their own at the start of the second quarter. This featured big shots from Thomas and Crews, something that would later be revealed as the theme of the night for Westwood. After exiting the halftime locker room down 33-28, Westwood came out with the first four points of the second half, and later went on a 14-0 run to go up by as much as nine. Again, it was Thomas and Crews who did all the heavy lifting. One area where the Redhawks did get their supporting cast to step up was in their full-court press, which really gave the Red Raiders fits for stretches. Coleman and Greenville looked determined to get back into it with excellent energy over the first few possessions of the fourth quarter, but Crews hit a massive set-play three to quiet the run. Later, [player_tooltip player_id='2632934' first='AJ' last='Veal'] stepped up with back-to-back and ones, before Thomas put the icing on the cake to give Coach Trent Robinson and the Westwood Redhawks their first-ever State Championship Trophy.
