2026 4A State Tournament - Consolation Round Performers

While they may have lost in their first round game at the 4A State Tournament at Forest Grove High School, it didn't prevent these players from continuing to play at their best. Here's a look at some of the top standouts from the consolation round games.    Two big games in the consolation round for the senior, leading the way in the scoring department with 21 points against St. Helens and then adding another 17 points in the 4th/6th place game against Molalla. The 6-foot-3 swingman played with a high motor that allowed him to contribute in other categories as well as one of Scappoose's top rebounders and defenders. A more than willing passer, he also dished out 7 assists to help the team capture 4th place.     Kessi is a player who we'll definitely be keeping a close eye on in the future as he intrigued us with his length and shooting ability. After hitting a couple of threes in the first game against St Helens, he followed that up with five threes against Molalla in posting a team-high 19 points. The junior isn't just a stand-still shooter as he's also able to use the dribble to free himself up for open looks and he's also a capable rebounder using his aforementioned length to his advantage.     It was very much a team effort when it came to Molalla's offensive attack but standing out just a little more than the others in their run to the 4th/6th place game was Pederson. The 6-foot-4 senior showed good effort and grit as one of the team's top options inside, using his soft touch to convert 14-for-22 total field goals in their two games. An active defender, he also piled up 9 steals.     Long and lanky at 6-foot-7, Mendez may be a little raw offensively but he stuck to what he does best - roll to and convert at the hoop. He was a perfect 5-for-5 from the field in Hidden Valley's loss to Molalla - all on attempts right near the rim - but he ran the floor well and utilized his length and height on the boards by pulling down a game-high 7 rebounds.     It certainly wasn't his best game of the season but Waite laid it all on the line in his last game of his high school career for the Lions. Using his motor and fearless forays to the hoop, the 6-foot-4 senior posted 8 points and 8 rebounds while battling foul trouble in the consolation loss to Scappoose. He was a shining light in what was a tough day for St. Helens against rival Scappoose.
