BERNALILLO – It's been four years since the Del Norte Knights made their magical run to the Class 4A state tournament championship game as the No. 11 seed, upsetting three higher seeded teams to get there.

Del Norte hasn't won a state tournament game since then, falling to eventual championship game participant Highland early last March in the first round.

The 2025-026 edition of the Knights, though, has the look and feel of a team capable of making a deep run when March finally arrives.

Led by the talented trio of G/F [player_tooltip player_id='1717253' first='Francois' last='Satchivi'], F Mumin Omer and PG [player_tooltip player_id='2215899' first='Pedro' last='Padron'], Del Norte is involved in an intriguing District 4A-6 race with Hope Christian. Both teams widened the gap between themselves and the rest of the district teams (Albuquerque Academy, Valley, Bernalillo) with victories Tuesday night.

Del Norte (14-9 overall, 4-1 district) made the short trip to Bernalillo and trounced the Spartans, 74-34, while Hope Christian (17-6, 6-0) edged Albuquerque Academy, 74-72, at home.

Del Norte entered Tuesday night's action ranked No. 4 by both MaxPreps and the Coaches in their latest polls, one spot behind Hope Christian. The Knights lived up to those rankings with their superb performance at Bernalillo, utilizing their superior size, speed and athleticism to make quick work of the Spartans at Henry O. Sanchez Court.

An early 7-0 run propelled Del Norte to an 11-3 lead and forced Bernalillo to call timeout with 3:38 left in the first quarter. Six-foot-3 senior Nathan Padilla's 3-pointer fueled an 11-4 Knights run following the timeout to give Del Norte a 22-7 lead after the first quarter.

Two early baskets by Pedron in the second quarter gave Del Norte a 20-point lead (29-9) for the first time. Minutes later, his 3-pointer made it 33-15 before the Knights settled for a 38-17 halftime advantage.

Any doubt about the contest's outcome was vanquished in the opening three minutes of third quarter. Dominating the offensive glass, the Knights began the second half with an 11-0 run in the first 2-1/2 minutes to stretch the lead to 49-17. Satchivi's 3-pointer made it 56-20 and activated the running clock.

Del Norte led, 61-20, at the end of the third quarter. The Knights outscored Bernalillo, 23-3, in the third quarter, dominating in every phase. With a continuous running clock and little drama, the fourth quarter zipped by.

Del Norte has three regular season games remaining - at Albuquerque Academy (2/13), vs. Valley (2/18) and the regular season finale at Hope Christian (2/20). The Knights and Huskies have already met three times this season The fourth matchup on Feb. 20 could decide the District 4A-6 regular season title. The previous three meetings have all been decided by five points or less.
