During the last two weeks of the regular season in Houston, 6A Region III District 22 had a hard-fought game between the two best teams to determine who would take the #1 seed for the division into playoffs. Yes, I am referring to the rowdy and tough game that took place between the Pearland Oilers and the Shadow Creek Sharks. On the campus of SCHS, the Oilers came in and took care of business with a 52-50 victory on enemy turf. Several players were showing out for their respective squads, but here are some guys who definitely caught my attention with not just their scoring, but all-around play.

[player_tooltip player_id='2860216' first='Byron' last='Bibbs'] had a tough start to the game, but he was able to get it as he nailed down three long range bombs to help the Oilers maintain a lead down the stretch. Bibbs is a wiry, athletic guard prospect who is one of the senior leaders on this Pearland team and can be counted on always for buckets in crunch time. Byron came away with 11 points and showcased that he can score from all three levels and is quick in transition. Bibbs should definitely be getting some collegiate looks soon if he is not on coaches' radars already!

Daniel Green was the driving force behind the offense for the Sharks as he displayed versatility, both as a scorer and main playmaker. Green had 19 points in the contest as he finished with a quick touch in the lane, hit several jumpers over defenders, and got teammates open for dime-dropping assists. Daniel came away with 7-8 assists, and he stayed calm and poised under pressure despite the close loss. A quick, pace setting point guard, Green gets to his spots and knows how to knock down open shots and set up the offense in an efficient system for the Sharks.

Karmelo was a huge presence inside for the Oilers in their win on the road. 13 points and 12 rebounds later, Rugley gave his team the win and earned top player honors for the Oilers this contest. As only a freshman this year, Karmelo first caught my eye at the ROW Showcase and took total advantage of his size and frame against the competition, dominating the interior on both sides of the ball. I am also impressed by his motor and ability to effectively control the glass and secure second chance opportunities for Pearland. His ceiling has nowhere to go, but up from here.

One of the most talented freshmen in Houston, BJ LaFell makes scoring look easy. He came away with 13 points and had his way at the rim on offense. He is an aggressive perimeter defender and can bully the opposing matchup into multiple turnovers. LaFell has good speed in transition, and he makes sure not to waste open looks at the basket on the perimeter or in the paint. He also has underrated leaping ability to block shots in the paint and knows how to scrap when it comes to loose balls. This was my second time getting to watch Brandon and he definitely deserves to be on radars all around Houston.

Ennis was a spot-up lights out shooter for the Oilers and got the team off to a hot start in the first half with 2 three pointers and a free throw. Tyylon helps with ballhandling duties when under pressure and has good court vision and wherewithal, knowing where his teammates are at all times and having the IQ to always make the open pass. Ennis had 16 points and overall was a big impact player especially on offense where he continually buried shots to keep the Oilers in the lead throughout the game.
