I got out to see some public school games, private school games, and out-of-town tournament games all in the same week to see local prospects compete at a high level. There were several wings that caught my eye with their performances in big games, we'll break down a few here. Let's dive in!

-The unsigned senior put on one of the best shot-making performances that I've seen, making ten of his first eleven shot attempts from the floor in a variety of ways. Marshburn got things started with a backdoor cut for an easy 2, squared up to hit a contested 3 off the bounce, knocked down a C+S corner 3, hit a tween tween pull-up 3 at the top of the key on an island with his defender, scored on a reverse pivot baseline pullup, scored off a tween tween step-back heat check 3 that hit nothing but net, and had an AND1 rip through floater off the window. His range extending past the three point arc and his ability to score with his back to the basket or facing his matchup is a testament to his work ethic.

-The Brown commit showed the full range of his skillset in a good win over Pallotti on the road. Harris knocked down a turnaround paint jumper, was fouled but still knocked down a wing 3 then raced back to block an extension layup other end. Harris then scored on a face cut lay through contact , bumped his matchup then hit the floater off the window, and had a beautifully-timed back cut for a dunk along baseline to make it 8 point game late in the 4Q. His blend of perimeter skill, off-ball movement, positional size, and athleticism should make him an impactful wing in the Ivy League.

-Loved Riddick's minutes off the bench as a physical guard that came in and immediately mucked up the game. His ability to serve as a versatile defender that guarded 1-5 was huge, loved the timing and disruptive double-team ability from his an off-ball guy that made plays for the Poets. Riddick hit two 2H layups at key moments in a Dunbar run and raced back to come up with a huge help side block from behind that converted into points at the other end for one of his teammates.

-Mamudu is beginning to earn extended run in the Mt Zion rotation as an undersized W/F prospect that can impact games with his energy on the glass and at the defensive end of the floor. He rotated over to block a shot on the weak side, sprints the floor in transition to be the first defender back to deny middle and force extra passes, moves well on the back line of the defense to serve as a drop-off target or connector on the move. The unselfish senior gave Mt Zion good minutes off the bench throughout the weekend as an energy wing prospect that guarded both up and down in the rotation, set screens, and communicated to make life easier for his teammates.

-Tchueffa's development as a rebounder and defensive anchor cannot be understated as one of the more physical W/F tweeners in DC basketball. His timing on the glass leads to him coming up with some big rebounds in traffic and he's developed a much better feel for when he needs to go right back out and when he needs to kick it out to a teammate on the perimeter. He's most comfortable scoring with a right hook over his left shoulder but also showed the vertical leaping gifts on a putback and reverse finish in traffic. If he can continue to develop more of a feel for when to remain vertical to avoid foul calls when defending savvy opposing guards, he should enjoy more extended runs of playing time on the floor to show his 2-way impact.

20p 7r 2a 6s 3b vs Coolidge

-Easily my most impressive new find of the week as the sophomore prospect stood out as a name to know right away. Brown started things off with a steal and dunk, passed out of a jumper to hit a cutting teammate under the rim for an easy layup, worked hard to get a good seal and and1 lay on the block, hit a spinning jumper in the paint, and served as an effective free safety in full court defensive schemes to collect steals when his opponent tried to throw it over the top. Brown's handle is pretty good for his size and he uses a strong frame to buck opponent's out of his way on drives to the rim or absorb contact on the defensive end of the floor while holding his position against taller opponents. His ability to play almost every position at either end of the floor should serve as an effective buoy for a young Dunbar team that has turned heads in the area with their play this season. That passing of the torch was embodied when the sophomore hit a huge corner three (video found here) off the assist from his senior PG after Brown knocked down the game-tying bucket two possessions earlier to bring his team all the way back (found here).
