We kicked off our coverage of the IHSA State Tournament on Monday night with a fun contest in 4A between Andrew and TF South. Both squads feature a potential D1 prospect in the junior class and several underclassmen emerged. Andrew led the majority of the game, but TF North did come back to tie the contest with 4 minutes left before Andrew would ultimately take control winning on their home floor 59-55 to advance to the regional semis on Wednesday. Here we examine the prospects that caught our attention in the game.

[player_tooltip player_id='2839876' first='Ryan' last='Dinnon'] (Andrew – 2027)

Dinnon is primed for a big spring and summer! The Andrew face up four man is known as a plus shooter from distance. He banged one in to begin the game, but after missing a couple he instead got to work in other ways. Shot fakes for takes off the bounce, multiple straight line takes finishing with either hand, and-1 on cut, and got to the free throw line at a high rate where he was money! Very skilled wing overall that is a good passer hitting cutters for dimes. Thought he rebounded at a good clip throughout the game. He went for 22 points.

[player_tooltip player_id='2921082' first='Titus' last='Payton'] (Andrew – 2029)

Payton has taken major steps in his game since we first saw him in August. The combo forward has broad shoulders and good length. Mobile athlete that is effective defensively and rebounds well in his area. Rim runner in transition that showed nimble finishing around the cup on cuts off the ball along with reverse layups. Also took his man off the dribble from the high-post for a score at the cup netting 12 points.

[player_tooltip player_id='2125664' first='Malik' last='Mahmoud'] (Andrew – 2027)

Mahmoud is a plus shooter from distance that drained a trio in the win for Andrew. His floor spacing opened things up for Dinnon and Payton.

[player_tooltip player_id='2328086' first='Amari' last='Dukes'] (TF South – 2027)

Dukes is the top prospect on TF South. Long and rangy guard that has a lot of intriguing physical tools and potential upside. He flashed it in this game, but it wasn't consistent. Couple nice drives for a reverse layup and spinning finish. Nailed a spot up three from the corner along with one cutting to the ball in the mid-range for 9 points.

Orville Cross (TF South – 2027)

Cross put his name on our radar in this game. The 6'4” power forward is an undersized post that will play at the college level with his sturdy frame and skilled low post game. Played strong through contact and had touch around the cup. Spinning post moves, finished in the pick/roll, and was a monster on the offensive glass. Went for 18 points.

[player_tooltip player_id='2217963' first='Isaiah' last='Whitehead'] (TF South – 2026)

Whitehead brought a major spark in his last high school game for TF South. He caught fire in the second half with his perimeter shot making as he poured in multiple deep threes to get his team back in the game. Crafty finisher for a smaller guard among the trees in the paint and had a couple slick passes off live dribbles. Went for 17 points.
