Bishop Manogue and Reno proved to be the top two teams up north during the regular season. Yesterday, they squared off for the NIAA 4A Northern Region Championship.

Like many title games, both teams played with intensity from the tip-off. Reno kept it close in the first half thanks to their energy. They even took a slight lead at one point after Ezra Sambrano splashed in a triple. But Manogue's offense did enough to give them a 27-22 lead heading into halftime.

After the break, the Miners picked things up. And much of that had to do with [player_tooltip player_id='1953886' first='Connor' last='Sheridan'], [player_tooltip player_id='2145557' first='Liam' last='Sorensen'], [player_tooltip player_id='1741167' first='Kade' last='Snyder'], and [player_tooltip player_id='2449393' first='Eli' last='Benna']. They took turns scoring the rock, each finding quality opportunities throughout the third quarter. Going into the final frame, it was 46-32 Miners.

With Manogue's lead at 14, Reno needed everything to go their way in the final eight minutes. However, the Miners answered the bell time and time again. Reno's comeback efforts only got them within nine. When that happened, Manogue called a timeout and drew up a play for Sheridan.

[player_tooltip player_id='1953886' first='Connor' last='Sheridan'] impressed yesterday with his ability to leverage his length around the rim. On offense, he was collecting rebounds with ease and going right back up with it. He also threw down a few emphatic dunks, including a lob in the 3rd quarter. And another late in the game (as mentioned above) to help the Miners put it out of reach. On defense, he was both altering and blocking shots. All in all, he played at a high level, and I liked the energy he brought throughout.

[player_tooltip player_id='1741167' first='Kade' last='Snyder'] dropped 15 points for Bishop Manogue in the 4A Northern Region Championship. He capitalized on his chances in the paint and knocked down several free throws after drawing contact. Defensively, he helped clog driving lanes and used his frame to box out opponents. Look for him to keep it rolling in the state semifinals against Legacy on Friday.

[player_tooltip player_id='2145557' first='Liam' last='Sorensen'] was a notable player due to his impact on both offense and defense. He was able to get draw a couple of charges, fed his teammates, and converted on a 3 point attempt in the first quarter. Later on I noticed him make smooth mid range shot in the 3rd quarter and he had a strong dunk in transition. With just a game or two left for Manogue, expect Sorensen to empty the tank as his high school career wraps up.

[player_tooltip player_id='1463215' first='James' last='Williams'] was on fire for Reno in the first quarter, scoring 7 straight points via free throws, a tough layup, and a 3-pointer.
