Wally Keller Classic: Sophomore Standouts

The 20th Anniversary of the Wally Keller Classic tipped off Friday and Saturday at Charlotte High School, once again delivering two days of high-level competition and standout performances. Featuring 18 boys games and many of the state's top programs and prospects, the event continued to cement its reputation as one of Florida's premier high school basketball showcases. Below is a look at some of the top performances from members of the 2028 class. He consistently got to the rim, showing strength and touch finishing through traffic while also scoring effectively on the block. Harris played with an aggressive mindset, drawing contact and converting eight free throws, further highlighting his physicality and ability to put consistent pressure on the defense.     One of the biggest stock risers of the day, this sophomore impressed with his offensive versatility and advanced feel for the game. Rivers finished with 14 points for the Bulls, showing the ability to score at all three levels—knocking down shots from deep, attacking all the way to the rim, and converting in the midrange. The lefty guard has above-average quickness, plays with pace, and is a name worth tracking in the 2028 class.     Rivers' teammate, already well known in recruiting circles, reminded evaluators of his impact with a 19-point performance in the Bulls' win on Saturday. The sophomore has good strength and positional size, looked comfortable knocking down shots from beyond the arc, and showed the ability to handle the ball as a secondary creator. Expect a strong offseason from Roberts as he continues to round out his all-around game.     A relatively under-the-radar prospect in the 2028 class, Strader impressed in two wins for the Warriors. The mobile sophomore big runs the floor well, changes ends with ease, and shows reliable hands around the basket. He can score over his left shoulder on the block, finish in transition, and make plays for others as a capable passer. Strader is a prospect to monitor closely over the next three years as his game continues to develop.     The smooth-shooting wing continues to impress during his sophomore season. Stewart plays with poise, shows good vision as a passer, and was effective scoring in the midrange. He has good length for the position and is developing into an intriguing two-way prospect as his overall game continues to round out.     Surrounded by a roster full of talent and college prospects, Simpson isn't posting eye-popping numbers for The Villages, but his talent and long-term potential are obvious. The sophomore possesses high-level size, length, and athleticism to go along with an advanced offensive skill set. A pair of plays on Saturday—a strong catch-and-finish in transition and a polished midrange move for a score—were more than enough to confirm that Simpson projects as one of the nation's top prospects in the 2028 class.
