We recently updated our 2028 class rankings, looking at 70 of the top sophomores in the state of Virginia. Here's a look at part one of the top shooting guards and small forwards in the class.

25) [player_tooltip player_id='2919006' first='Colby' last='Gibbs'] | 6'3” SG | Trinity Episcopal (#66 Overall)

Gibbs is part of a talented young TES group that looks like they'll be a force to reckon with over the next couple of seasons, and he'll be a big reason as he continues to develop and get better. Already standing 6'3” he has great positional size and is likely still growing, he shoots it really well from deep with good range, and he uses his size to get downhill and finish at the rim too.

24) Harry Hazelgrove | 6'1” SG | Steward School (#63 Overall)

Steward is in a similar situation as TES with a very talented young group, and Hazelgrove is one of those players and he just keeps getting better and better moving forward. He's somewhat of a specialist as he's in the game to make shots from deep, he moves well off the ball and runs to his spots in transition, and he gives good effort on both ends of the floor too.

23) [player_tooltip player_id='2957395' first='Yamanuel' last='Agonafir'] | 6'5” SF | Justice (#61 Overall)

Agonafir makes his debut in the rankings as he's having a really solid season for Justice, and with his blend of size and budding skillset he's got a chance to be a really good player in the next few years. While he's still developing he plays really hard and is willing to do the little things like rebound and fight for loose balls, he uses his size to his advantage challenging shots and finishing on smaller defenders, and as he continues to polish and develop he'll be a player to watch moving forward.

22) Dillion Murphy | 6'4” SF | TPLS (#56 Overall)

Murphy is another player I could see moving up in these rankings with time, as he already has good size on the wing and already shoots the ball well from deep in different ways. He's a good set shooter on kick-outs but also can come off screens or knock it down on “through” cuts, he uses his length to get deflections and challenge shots, and as he fills out he should be able to mix it up in the paint too.

21) Levi Mann | 6'0” SG | Appomattox (#55 Overall)

There aren't many times I've wrote about a player from Appomattox, but after watching him in Prep Hoops camps and keeping up with him he's a player to watch for moving forward. The 6'0” off guard shoots it extremely well from deep, he's a good secondary ball handler who makes good decisions and the right play consistently, and he has a toughness about him where he likes to compete even against older and bigger players.

20) Connor Culley | 6'4” SG | Bishop O'Connell (#53 Overall)

Culley is part of a trio of talented young off guards for this O'Connell team, and he may have the most upside of the group in the 2028 class with his size and blossoming skillset. He's a very good shooter from deep who doesn't need a ton of space to get his shot off with his quick release, he has a high IQ and makes the right play consistently, and he gives good effort defensively and is able to move his feet and challenge shots on the perimeter.

19) [player_tooltip player_id='2548191' first='Trenton' last='Blosser'] | 6'0” SG | Spotswood (#50 Overall)

Blosser transferred to Spotswood after starting his career at East Rockingham, and while his future is likely in baseball he's got a chance to be the next big time two guard out of Spotswood. He's a skilled guard who can shoot the ball from deep on kick-outs and coming off of screens, he gets downhill well and uses jump stops and fakes well to get open looks, and he has good touch and body control to hit fall-aways and tough shots too.

18) [player_tooltip player_id='2548307' first='Logan' last='Brooks'] | 6'1” SF | Evergreen Christian (#49 Overall)

Brooks transferred to Evergreen from John Paul the Great and reclassified to the 2028 class, which should be good as he continues to grow and develop over the next few years. He's a skilled and athletic wing who is really good running in transition and finishing, he moves well off the ball to get open for layups and jumpers, and he brings toughness defensively with his willingness to compete and rebound.

17) [player_tooltip player_id='2479654' first='Chaycen' last='Harman'] | 6'0” SG | Floyd County (#48 Overall)

Harman had a good freshman season for a Floyd County team that came one win away from the state championship game, and he's having a breakout sophomore campaign as he's become their primary ball handler and playmaker. He's a dead eye shooter from deep with good range and a quick release, he's showing he can handle the ball and make plays for others, he's continuing to grow into his body and getting more athletic, and as a coach's son he's very advanced with his IQ and understanding of the game.

16) Joshua Imansuangton | 6'5” SF | Episcopal (#45 Overall)

Imansuangton is one of the players in this class with the most upside, as he's already very big and athletic for his position with a skillset that has come along well since we first saw him. The 6'5” wing is very good getting downhill and attacking the rim where he can use his size to finish around the rim, he's becoming more consistent as a catch-and-shoot guy from deep, and he's a good rebounder and defender for his position as well.
