I watched the prestigious Damien Classic which is located at Laverne, CA at Damien HS. The event has 9 brackets of 16 teams each and six Arizona teams invaded Cali and did quite well.

Sunnyslope (4-0) actually won the top Platinum Division and Sandra Day O'Connor (1-3) ended up in 8th place. Mesa (1-3) got 8th place in the Gold Division, Central (3-1) got 3rd place and Liberty (2-2) got 11th place in the Diamond Division and finally Saguaro (2-2) earned 6th place in the Silver Division.

Here were the PG/CG Standouts

[player_tooltip player_id='2257790' first='Nicholas' last='Topolosek'] Liberty

A strong combo guard with nice frame and a lot of skill. He will score it and he can make plays for others. He is a middy magician with a super high elevation rising over defenders. He can blow by his initial man and get to the rack with his frame. He will also rattle in triples one by one and defend on the ball.

[player_tooltip player_id='1591734' first='TJ' last='Harris'] Liberty

A quick on quick scoring point guard who can make players around him better with some needle threaders. He likes the mid-range game but his three point shooting looks better than it did a year ago. He is dynamic in the open court and when he is rolling, the Lions are a tough out.

[player_tooltip player_id='2386974' first='Nasir' last='Hailey'] Saguaro

A strong framed scoring lead guard can make plays for his teammates but scores it. He will score with post ups, mid-range jumpers, catch threes and strong downhill drives in heavy traffic. He is also a bully on the ball defensively.

[player_tooltip player_id='2194803' first='Pierce' last='Harrington'] Saguaro

A scoring combo guard who can play on or off the ball. He will fill it up with dribble drives, euro steps, mid-range pull-ups, threes, transition scores, coast to coast takes and smartly changes speeds well with spin moves.

[player_tooltip player_id='1938808' first='Justice' last='Hinds'] Saguaro

A physical two-way point guard will rip his opponent pockets and collect steals in bunches. He will score it with md-range jumpers, layups off of a steal and often blow by layups in traffic. He is a good passer as a true facilitator making the game easy for his teammates.

[player_tooltip player_id='1651788' first='Jakyi' last='Miles'] Mesa

A bigger scoring lead guard is a tough shot maker in traffic. He uses his size to get to the basket and will score with deep threes with a quick trigger and gets to his spots with mid-range jumpers. He really is a better passer then what he gets credited for as he scores it so easily.

[player_tooltip player_id='2280210' first='Josh' last='Stewart'] Mesa

A highly skilled combo guard is the team's floor spacer. He will score it with threes off the catch and he can get to the basket with a quick burst past his initial defender. He is working hard as a on-ball defender as well.

[player_tooltip player_id='2146269' first='Daijon' last='Grayson'] Mesa

One of the more dynamic point guards in the AIA has speed and athleticism for days with great size. He will score it with alley oops, dunks on the fast break, floaters and slashes to the basket. He will find teammates in stride and collect steals in bunches.

[player_tooltip player_id='1759332' first='Dom' last='Rojas'] Central

An undersized, tough scoring point guard will take charges and fights on defense with his quick hands and feet. He will score with floaters, fast dribble drives, threes off the catch and mid-range pull-ups. He will give you all he has on every possession.

[player_tooltip player_id='2433379' first='Samay' last='Wagh'] Sandra Day O'Connor

The sophomore point guard was handling a lot of the PG job and making open shots. He is is more athletic then he appears and can get downhill and take a bump at the rim and bounce off of the contact to score. He was also hitting the three with more consistency.

[player_tooltip player_id='1555180' first='Delton' last='Prescott III'] Sunnyslope (Pictured)

Prescott III earned an All-Tourney spot at the Damien Classic and was named the MVP. He facilitated like a pure point with pinpoint passes slipping it into traffic. He scored it with floaters, mid-range pull-ups, fall aways, tough speed layups with contact, blow by takes, hook shots posting up and threes. He controlled the pace to every game and he is your classic real PG.

[player_tooltip player_id='1574517' first='Jaylin' last='Ideran'] Sunnyslope

A super valuable bench player is the team's sixth man. He plays a lot of minutes as the team's point guard but can slide over to the two with Prescott III at the one. He will score it with mid-range jumpers, corner threes off the catch, he smartly moves without the ball and he is a another sure handed ball handler for one of the top teams in the AIA.

[player_tooltip player_id='1150901' first='John' last='Mattingly'] Central

One of the top scoring point guards at the event. He poured in close to 30 points in every single game to get them a 3rd place win and they only lost in OT to the eventual champions. He scores it calmly with spin moves, quick burst layups, mid-range pull-ups, deep threes and always plays off of two-feet to make a play or score. The Nevada commit will step thru and gets to the free throw line more than most players.

[player_tooltip player_id='1873639' first='Grant' last='Mattingly'] Central

A sophomore point guard with a versatile game. He does not have to score 20+ to affect the outcome as he defends multiple positions, rebounds at a high clip for his position, makes good reads and will also score. He loves to quickly drive it with a nice burst, fall away in the lane and hit perimeter jumpers from mid to the three.
