Now that the tournament portion of the season, or the preseason, has come to an end and teams have started league play, with some non-league match-ups now occurring in one-day showcases or one-offs, I will focus on the top performers by position that I was able to see live. I will do this weekly, for the remainder of the regular season, starting with games over the week of January 2nd to January 10th. This article takes a look at 7 standout wing/guards that I was able to see in the 6 games I covered over that 8-day span, all of them stand alone games. The is final article from Week 1 of league and post-tournament play looking at the standout wing/guards. In this article you will find the following information: player's information, relevant statistics, and a brief description of each player's skill sets and how they performed in the games I watched. The players are listed in alphabetical order, not ranked order, and we begin with [player_tooltip player_id='2932172' first='Giovanni' last='Fomusoh'].

The 6-foot-2 wing/guard excels in the open court, is a versatile defender, crashes the glass, and is able to put up points in volume. Fomusoh had two impressive showings against Santa Paula and Hanford, as he would go a team-high 22 points and 8 rebounds, followed by 10 points, 12 rebounds, and 3 steals. Fomusoh has a long wingspan, active hands and good instincts, the footspeed to stay in front of perimeter players, and the strength and length to hold up against taller players, deflects entry passes, jumps passing lanes, and alters shots on the perimeter, as well as weak side blocks. Fomusoh has the handles to create off the bounce, is effective with the pull-up middy, is a crafty scorer around the basket with the Euro and the reverse lay-ups, and can space the floor with the 3-ball on occasion. Fomusoh is a good rebounder, gets the ball out quickly, and gets ahead of the defense for countless buckets in transition, keeping constant pressure on the defense to get back and set up its defense or get scored on.

The 6-foot-4 combo guard has great court vision, plays with good pace and controls the flow of the game, is a great positional rebounder, can score the ball from 3-levels, and makes plays to open teammates. Jensen was one of the bright spots for the Bullpups, in its loss to Centennial of Bakersfield, as he put up a solid double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds, to go along with 3 steals. Jensen has solid handles, keeps the ball on a string to survey the court, has the court vision to find open teammates off the drive and kick pass, as well as finding the diver off the pick and roll action and up the court off the glass to find his teammates in stride. Jensen uses the between-cross, toss-cross, behind-cross, and the hesitation to get his defender off balance, is accurate with the jumper off the dribble from the mid-range to the 3-point line, and has the strength to score through contact, along with the Euro-step and reverse lay-ups in his arsenal to score over height. Jensen is active on the glass to push the pace of play, with quick hands to poke the ball out or deflect passes.

The 6-foot-4 wing/guard has a smooth jumper, is active on the glass, has improved as a playmaker, and does a solid job of picking his shot spots. Johnson had a solid showing against South Bakersfield, going for 10 points and a pair of steals, as the Drillers would have 8 players in the scoring column. Johnson has a smooth handle, uses the crossover, between-cross, behind-cross, hesitation, and toss-cross to create space from his defender, gets great lift on the jumper from the mid-range to the 3-point line with efficiency, loves to get to the elbows, and has great body control through contact in the air to square his body up. Johnson uses the Euro-step, reverse, and up-and-under lay-ups to evade shot blockers, and has shown improved play making ability with his decision making and court vision to find open teammates off the drive and kick pass, up the court off the defensive glass, and cross-court to open shooters when the defense over-crowds one side of the court. Versatile defender that has the wingspan and lateral quickness to deflect passes or jump passing lanes to get out in transition.

The 6-foot-3 wing/forward is active on the glass, can score in volume, spaces the floor from beyond the arc, and runs the floor well. In a tough 2 point loss to Centennial of Bakersfield, Ordonez had an impressive double-double, as he would go for 15 points, connecting on 3 threes, and 11 rebounds. Ordonez has good touch on shots around the basket, crashes the boards to get putbacks or limit the opposition to single shot possessions, is effective with the face-up jumper from the mid-to-high post, uses the pump-fake to get his defender out of position to open up driving lanes getting down hill, and moves fluidly off the ball to get to his shot spots, and is accurate with the 3-ball off the catch or the dribble. Ordonez is able to hold up against taller players, has the wingspan to deflect passes or alter shots, and can defend smaller players on switches.

The 6-foot-4 combo guard is a productive 3-level scorer, can light it up from beyond the arc, scores in volume, and has emerged as one of the best shooters in the Section, regardless of class. Sidhu put on a shooting clinic in a win over Garces Memorial of Bakersfield, as he would score 22 points, connecting on 6 threes, and 5 assists in only 3 quarters of play, given the starters did not play in the 4th quarter. Sidhu has solid handles, keeps the ball on a string to survey the floor, has the court vision to find open teammates off the drive and kick pass, as well as finding his bigs off the pick and roll action and makes the right read when the defense over pursues him. Sidhu has been most impressive this season as the leading perimeter scoring threat for the Panthers with some big scoring games against quality competition. Sidhu uses the crossover, behind-cross, between-cross, toss-cross, and hesitation moves to create space from his defender, moves fluidly off the ball to get to his shot spots, and is accurate with the jumper from the mid-range to the 3-point line off the bounce or the catch. The Panthers have a big one this Saturday against St. Joseph of Santa Maria at the Knights gym, followed by Riordan of San Francisco at the De La Salle MLK Showcase, and Sidhu will be relied upon to put up quality numbers to help San Joaquin have a shot to win those two games.

The 6-foot-3 wing/guard is a high-level defender that can guard multiple positions, is able to space the floor with the 3-ball, is assertive on the boards, and is a great athlete that uses that to enhance his impact on the game. In a loss to Centennial of Bakersfield, Williams had a near double-double to help keep his team in the game, going for 9 points and 8 rebounds. Williams has a long wingspan, active hands, and good lateral quickness to stay in front of perimeter players, get into their dribbling space, and turn defense to offense routinely. Williams has the strength and length to hold up against bigger players, the wingspan to alter perimeter shots and deflect shots from the weakside, the handles and use of the crossover to get his defender off balance, looks to get into the paint off the bounce, has the strength to score through contact around the basket, and can space the floor with the jumper.

The 6-foot-4 wing/forward crashes the boards, can space the floor from beyond the arc, plays with a relentless motor, and has been big time for the Eagles, who have been playing without its two top perimeter scorers since the start of the New Year. In the Eagles loss to San Gabriel Academy, it would be Yurosek that would step up and fill the scoring gap with the absence of Braylen Smith and [player_tooltip player_id='2194700' first='Jeremias' last='Killebrew'] going down with an ankle sprain in the first half, as Yurosek would finish with 15 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 steals. Yurosek is active on the glass, gives his team multiple shot opportunities on the offensive glass, has the court vision to find open teammates from the top of the key, as well as up the court off the rebound, and has active hands and will get on the deck to get 50/50 balls or generate steals to get out in transition. Yurosek moves well off the ball to get open looks off the catch, is effective with the 3-ball, has improved his effectiveness with the mid-range jumper, and can score through contact at the basket.
