Who are the top 4A teams?
Memphis Central High School drove to southeast Missouri for the Poplar Bluff Showdown and returned home Poplar Bluff Showdown Champions! They won every single game in the 2025 portion of the 2025-2026 season, a string of 16 straight victories. They did lose to perennial power Vashon (MO) over the weekend though.
"We are 16-1," said Memphis Central Head Coach Vernard Watkins. "We took our first loss this past weekend to Vashon, a school out of Missouri. We had a great week. We went to Poplar Bluff Classic this past week. That was a great success for us. We are doing great." Central is starting

Two days after losing their #1 status Bartlett crushed #6 Maryville, 65-32. I mean, CRUSHED. Oops. The next day the Panthers defeated Knoxville Catholic, 78-57.
Brentwood defeated a strong Battle Ground Academy team New Year's Eve Day, 63-56. Though they lost to state title aspirant Briarcrest Christian the Bruins did beat former Top 10 team Whitehaven this past week, making an argument for them to remain #1 overall in PrepHoopsTN's poll.

Houston owns five losses, but their schedule has been brutal. There are certainly teams with fewer losses in the state. It is tricky to pair them against each other in a ranking system. Houston hangs on in the Top 10 precariously, for now.
Two monster matchups this coming week are Bartlett versus Houston and Whitehaven versus Memphis Central.
"We are looking forward to playing Whitehaven Friday night," said Memphis Central HC Watkins Sunday night. "They are coming to the house. It is going to be a big game for us. Whitehaven is supposed to be the best team in the city, but we like our chances this year. We are looking forward to playing them Friday night."
