Below, we'll take a look at five prospects, from all four division in the NHIAA, that have been able to put the ball in the basket at a high level so far this winter.

[player_tooltip player_id='2633444' first='Connor' last='McGowan']

McGowan, a guard out of Bishop Guertin, is leading Division I in scoring at 27.0 points per game. Arguably the state's top perimeter shooter, McGowan has been on a tear through the early part of the season. He has the ability to play on or off the basketball, does a nice job of getting to his spots as a scorer off the bounce, and shows the ability to make tough two's in the mid-range. On top of that, he does a nice job of creating turnovers on the defensive end of the floor and then turning those plays into transition offense.

Nate Johnson

Johnson, a wing out of Merrimack, is second in Division I in scoring at 23.7 points per game. After averaging 13.0 points per game as a junior, Johnson has taken his scoring to another level in his senior season. He's an aggressive scorer around the rim, capable of using his strength and physicality to make plays through contact. He does a nice job of scoring in the mid-range and has elevated his ability to consistently knock down shots from behind the arc. On top of that, he is a strong two-way rebounder that does a nice job of turning offensive rebounds into put-back opportunities.

Ryan Casey

Casey, a guard out of Bishop Brady, is first in Division II in scoring at 25.0 points per game. After averaging 18.5 points per game last season, he's upped his averaged by almost 7 points per game so far this winter. He does a nice job of scoring at all three levels, using some touch from behind the arc and some length around the rim. He can make plays in space as a driver, knows how to take advantage of smaller defenders in the paint, and moves well without the basketball as a cutter.

Grant Baker

Baker, a wing out of St. Thomas Aquinas, is leading Division III in scoring at 24.0 points per game. The sophomore is the breakout star of the early season in the NHIAA, taking full advantage of his new role and the opportunity he's been given. A nice athlete, he does a good job of using his quick first step to get into the paint off the bounce, where he's able to hang in the air and finish over defenders with length. He has the ability to make contested shots in the mid-range and has also shown the ability to knock down threes, making five in one game already this season.

Daryion Faustin

Faustin, a guard out of Profile, is leading Division IV (and the entire state) in scoring at 30.3 points per game. The senior has gotten off to a blazing starts and is powering one of the state's top offenses through the early part of the season. His ability to make plays on the defensive end of the floor has led to a lot of baskets in transition, while he also does a nice job of operating as a grab and go rebounder, allowing him to make scoring decisions in the open floor. Beyond that, he does a nice job of making shots in catch and shoot situations and also shows the ability to attack closeouts and score at the rim.
