MIAA Athletes to Watch

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>I recently attended a couple scrimmages featuring Burlington, North Attleboro, Xaverian, Newton South and Billerica. All five teams have talent and watching these teams heat up as the scrimmages went on was what I expected from each. They each have a chance to make the playoffs or be competitive in their leagues. A few players are left off this list from each team but will get recognition during the year. A no dip three type player. He gets into rhythm and has good footwork. A leaner frame but don't let that fool you as he plays through contact and in one play even bullied a kid for a 50/50 rebound. A dual sport athlete on the track as well. A stat sheet stuffer. Very disruptive and annoying on defense with his athleticism and wing span. Creates a lot of transitional offense with getting a tip on the rock or running the floor/filling lanes. A dual sport athlete excelling on the track team. He gets downhill and draws contact. He changes the dribbling pace with his moves. A high IQ player, knows when to slow down in transition and wait for reinforcements or when to push the pace of play. He is a projected D3 player in college but has a year to work hard to get to D2 before freshman year. Can be an effective scorer from all 3 levels, with no dip 3's and a quick release. A twitchy guard who likes to penetrate while taking his defender laterally to find a weakness in the gaps. As the scrimmaged developed against Burlington he went to his bag of tricks, having more effective attack dribble. A big body exactly what Xaverian needs with a bunch of guards and wings. Very hard to keep off the glass. Runs the floor exceptionally well for his size. Could easily be a double double machine. Likes to pressure his man 94 feet. A good communicator on defense. Thats not his best attribute on defense though as he gets his hand on many passes creating offense for his team or slows the offense down. A good spot filler on offense with exceptional vision finding teammates. Tries to fight over the top of DHO's and back screens. A smooth shot and steps into rhythm when shooting. Going to have the ball in his hands a lot this season and told me college basketball was on his mind. Will draw multiple fouls with his ability to cut through gaps, baiting his defender. Turns his hips quick shooting especially when back is to the rim. Gets downhill and uses his body well to set up the defender for a counter punch when dribbling. With the ball in his hands, if the defense switches on ball screens good luck to them as he torched any defender off the dribble.
