Kingdom of the Sun Recap

One of the nation's longest running tournaments in the country, 16 programs once again arrived in Ocala to compete for the championship in the Kingdom of the Sun. The finals turned out to be a South Florida showdown between Pembroke Pines Charter and Stranahan with the Jaguars bringing the trophy back to South Florida. Here is a look at some of the top performers from the 4 days at Vanguard High School.    Point guard play stood out in Ocala this week and no one played the position better than Tournament MVP [player_tooltip player_id='2294546' first='Zack' last='Dawson']. The Pines Charter floor general uses his quickness and strength to attack the paint at the offensive end. The junior has a good command of the basketball and shoots it well enough from the perimeter to keep defenses honest.     Dawson's teammate, [player_tooltip player_id='2294543' first='Anthony' last='Walcott'] had some of his most consistent games of the season and was named to the All Tournament team in Ocala. The junior is a lanky wing with size who can create off the bounce and is at this best in the midrange, with his range continuing to expand. Walcott has positional size, is an above average athlete and has a pretty good feel for the game.     The lead guard for Dragons had a great week in Ocala and looked every bit the part of a future Division I point guard. The junior has high level quickness and was able to create scoring opportunities for himself and his teammates. He is a capable open shot maker and is always in attack mode at the offensive end.     One of the breakout stars of the week, Scippio is a long, athletic, skilled wing who was excellent in two evaluations in Ocala. The unsigned senior is a shot maker who can shoot it off the catch or off the dribble. He uses his length and instincts to be a factor on the defensive end and can quickly turn defense into offense. The Newberry HS product should become a popular name with college coaches during the next few months.     On a talented Dr, Phillips team who lost in the semifinals, it was this late blooming prospect who showed all the potential he has at both ends of the floor. Baker has high level length and above average athleticism to go along with a motor that always seems to be running. The unsigned senior has good footwork in the paint and and scores almost all this points in the painted area. He is active on the glass and can guard multiple positions at the defensive end.     Anthony available 2026 prospect, Horton continued his strong senior season with a good showing at the Kingdom of the Sun. The senior is an athletic, scoring wing with a good feel for the game. He is a three level scorer who plays with a motor that never stops.
