Epic Rivalries in Louisiana High School Basketball

Rivalries exist between programs and communities and sometimes you just have to go and watch the games to understand how deep it is. Everyone in the gym was given a treat before Christmas and in a packed gym that was filled to capacity an hour before tip off this game lived up to the hype. In a game that featured some of the top players in the state in front of coaches and scouts this match up was an epic battle.    Demery has established himself as one of the most unstoppable big men in the state. As an undersized post, Demery is a master in the paint. His footwork, poise and pace in the lane (that is a thing, cuz I seen it) makes him impossible to guard. He is a walking double double and often times, his rebounding output exceeds his point total, simply because he dominates on both sides of the court. His 24 point performance was a work of art and he got it all in the paint. He is a high IQ post player with an unmatched motor. He is a stock riser and one of the most interesting prospects in the state.     Remo is a coaches dream for several reasons. The word is that coaches come to Louisiana looking for dawgs. Remo is one of those players. He is relentless as a defender, and could easily be considered one of the top 5 perimeter defenders in the state. He dropped 18 in a tense match up and his game is as complete as they come. He can score on all three levels and just works hard from end to end in every single game on every possession. He scored 10 of NCHS fourth quarter 20 points proving that he shows up in the biggest moments of the game. Coaches searching for a Louisiana dawg should not look past Remo. He checks all the boxes.     Smith continues to prove he is one of the top players in the state and the next rankings will surely reflect his work and on-court production. I was introduced to his game in the summer and every time I watch him play, his game reveals another aspect of his potential. He is a big strong guard, that can do it on both sides of the ball. He is an elite finisher that can shoot from anywhere on the court. He will play college ball if he wants to, and any Coach looking for a strong guard that can play on or off the ball would be lucky to grab this hidden gem in Louisiana.     Bowman led his team with 18 points, but it was more than his scoring output that stood out. His ability to handle the ball and create for his teammates brings him to the forefront of point guard conversations. Bowman has improved his game in all measurable areas and looks to be a next level talent. Calling him shifty would be an understatement and Red River will be a problem for teams this season in large part because of Bowmans development. Keep an eye on Bowman and Red River, because he is a legit threat when he is on the court.     Newton was all over the court in this tightly contested match up and even though his 17 points could not lift his team to a win, his talent and skill were evident as he kept showing up in the biggest moments. He is a tough guard with the ability to make big shots in tense moments. Newton is a player to watch this season.
