There were a number of remarkable individual performances around the state in the opening week of action. Below we take a look at eight of the top Class 2A showings from the first seven days of action in a series that we plan to continue throughout the year, hopefully without too many repeats!

2026 SG [player_tooltip player_id='2731635' first='Malachi' last='Rice'] (Centerville) -- 50 points (17-33 FG, 3-11 3P, 13-15 FT), 7 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals [at Van Buren County]

Rice has been on another level to open his senior year, recording the two highest scoring games of the season so far, dropping 49 against Cardinal, and then following it up with 50 against Van Buren. A quick guard who loves to use his speed and handles to blow by defenders and get downhill, he was unstoppable against the Warriors, routinely getting to the bucket and the free-throw line. Just imagine what he would've done if he had shot it a little better from the 3-point line.

2026 SF [player_tooltip player_id='2413626' first='Landon' last='De Stigter'] (Western Christian) -- 40 points (12-21 FG, 3-9 3P, 13-14 FT), 11 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal, 1 block [at Bishop Garrigan]

One of the few returnees from last year's 2A state champion Wolfpack, De Stigter had a massive game in a huge win over 1A #2 Bishop Garrigan. A long, athletic wing who can score from all three levels, De Stigter is being asked to step into a primary scoring role this winter, and he clearly looked ready to do so last week.

2026 SF [player_tooltip player_id='2886871' first='Alex' last='Jamison'] (Monticello) -- 30 points (13-17 FG, 3-4 3P, 1-2 FT), 8 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal, 1 block [vs. Durant]

Jamison averaged 5.9 points and shot 34% from the floor during his junior year for the Panthers, so it's pretty safe to say that this was a career outing for the 6-5 combo forward. He was a force around the rim, scoring efficiently and controlling the glass, and he even showed that he can step out and space the floor. He's obviously not going to drop 30 every night, but if he can be a reliable 12-14 point scorer for the Panthers, they could be a real contender in 2A.

2028 SG Cayson Brown (West Burlington) -- 25 points (8-18 FG, 8-13 3P, 1-2 FT), 8 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals [vs. Davis County]

Brown is a talented sophomore guard who will be a big part of the Falcons' program for the next three years, and he provided a glimpse of his potential with this 25-point, stat-sheet stuffing outing against Davis County. A 6-1 guard with a smooth stroke from the 3-point line off both the dribble and the catch, it was his two-way impact that really stood out in this one.

2026 PG [player_tooltip player_id='2853881' first='Isaac' last='Schierholz'] (Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn) -- 24 points (10-14 FG, 3-3 3P, 1-3 FT), 8 rebounds, 8 assists, 1 block [vs. Trinity Christian]

Speaking of stuffing the stat sheet, if the Hawks had an extra four minutes against Trinity Christian, Schierholz may have put up a triple-double. He was extremely efficient, scoring from all three levels, and did a great job setting the table for his teammates in their win over the Tigers.

2027 SF [player_tooltip player_id='2379147' first='Reese' last='Montgomery'] (Red Oak) -- 13 points (5-17 FG, 0-3 3P, 3-6 FT), 29 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals, 2 blocks [vs. Clarinda]

The scoring efficiency obviously wasn't great for Montgomery, shooting under 30% against Clarinda, but look at that rebounding total! Montgomery established himself as one of the state's elite rebounders last season, and picked up right where he left off this year, pulling down 29 boards against the Cardinals.

2026 PG Brennen Dale (West Branch) -- 15 points (6-11 FG, 3-6 3P), 8 rebounds, 12 assists, 2 steals, 1 block [vs. Easton Valley]

Another stat-sheet stuffing guard, Dale made a huge impact on the game on both ends of the floor in the Bears' win over Easton Valley, posting a double-double with his assists. He's a high IQ guard who plays with pace, sees the floor really well, and is a viable three-level scoring threat.

2027 PF Oscar Cline (Louisa-Muscatine) -- 20 points (10-16 FG), 10 rebounds, 7 assists, 5 steals, 4 blocks [vs. Rivermont Collegiate]

Cline was dominant against Rivermont, putting up a double-double on efficient shooting, grabbing five offensive rebounds, and being the player that the offense can flow through with his size and ability to see the floor. Oh, not to mention the nine "stocks", making a huge impact on the defensive end of the floor.

There were a number of remarkable individual performances around the state in the opening week of action. Below we take a look at eight of the top Class 2A showings from the first seven days of action in a series that we plan to continue throughout the year, hopefully without too many repeats!
