A review of the D1 Showcase wouldn't be complete without noting the sophomores who showed out. Many of them were instrumental to how well their teams competed. Here are the most notable:

When the Howard defense was scrambling in rotation or the Crusaders got an offensive rebound, there was McMillan, shot-ready on the wing. He drilled a quartet of threes on Sunday afternoon that looked good as soon as the ball came off his right hand. Not limited to scoring, McMillan contributed his size advantage on the boards where get pulled down a few on offense and defense. He led BC with 16 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 assists.

[player_tooltip player_id='2694943' first='Jayden' last='Ortiz-Muhammad'] | 6'0 G 2028 West Catholic

Points came at a premium when the Burrs faced Patrick School, but Ortiz-Muhammad came up clutch for them off the bench. He cut into the Celtics' lead when he went off for 11 points in the third. He cashed a catch-and-shoot three, got a still splashed another, and hit a floater on the following possession. Then, after closing out the quarter with a pull-up, Ortiz-Muhammad kept his foot on the gas in the fourth. He ignited his team with a game-high 19 points plus 2 steals.

[player_tooltip player_id='2459417' first='Kyndal' last='Riley-Garlick'] | 6'2 G 2028 William Penn Friday night, in the event's opening game, Riley-Garlick was an animal on defense and a thorn in the side of Newark Arts on offense. He used his strong and quick hands to repeatedly punch people's shots when they drove in his direction. And even though there were several players taller than him, he got second-chance points off of his own offensive rebounds, scored in the post, and got to the free throw line (6-6 FT). Riley-Garlick kept his teammates involved as well, totalling 13 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 steal, and 4 blocks.

[player_tooltip player_id='2427227' first='MJ' last='Thompson'] | 6'3 G 2028 George School With steady production throughout the Sanford game, Thompson contributed in almost every way possible. He got to the second-level for jumpers and continued on for tough lays, while also being disruptive on defense. Overall, Thompson's ability to play without the ball allowed him to exploit advantages wherever and whenever he got it. He finished with 15 points, 4 rebounds, 1 steal, and 1 block.

[player_tooltip player_id='2833865' first='Mason' last='Williams'] | 5'11 G 2028 George School

Williams erupted for 12 first-quarter points against Sanford, giving the Cougars a lead they would never relinquish. Dangerous off the catch, he knifed into the tilted defense, scored throughout contact, and hit a spot-up three. From then on, the Warriors were locked in on him, so Williams used his gravity to make plays for everyone else. He finished with 14 points, 5 boards, and 4 assists.
