Carey Smith | Prep Hoops Scout
Thompson posted a monster 2024-25 high school season in which he averaged 17 points along with 5 rebounds per game and was a 1st Team All-Suburban One League selection. Then on the spring grassroots circuit Thompson was a major part of a K-Low Elite team that assembled a 14-0 record in May. Thompson is a speedy and versatile guard with extraordinary transition scoring skills. If a half-court possession style game unfolds, Thompson will drain threes as well as score and distribute off the bounce. Thompson can get into the lane and then convert on lay-ins, unleash floaters and kiss runners off the glass. Or he can get a paint touch and then kick out to open shooters or slip a pass to a cutting teammate. College coaches will love Thompson’s high IQ and tenacity.

Thompson began emerging last summer before putting together a standout sophomore season and carrying that momentum right onto the grassroots circuit this spring against a notable uptick in competition. An attack-minded wing guard with a steady bounce in his step, Thompson plays with a controlled aggression while consistently looking to make things happen on either end. He’s a capable shooter but really stands out with his fluid athleticism as a downhill attacker and sneaky feel as a passer. Thompson brings a natural intensity to the floor and a consistent nose for the ball on D. Still new to high-level competition, he can get caught playing too fast at times, but certainly looks on track to be a scholarship-level prospect with D1 potential depending on what level he reaches as a shooter.

Over the last six months Thompson’s play has been simply incredible. During the 2024-25 high school season Thompson posted a stat line of 17 points to go along with 5 rebounds per game. This past season he posted 27 points (3 threes) and 7 rebounds against Holy Ghost as well as 21 points in a win over Bensalem. Those numbers earned him 1st Team All-Suburban One League as well as 2nd Team All-Area selections. Thompson is a speedy and versatile guard with extraordinary three-level scoring skills. His ability to blow past the initial defender off the dribble to create opportunities for himself or teammates presents serious match up issues for opponents. Once he is in the lane, Thompson can unleash a floater, convert on a lay-in, kick out to an open shooter or drop a pass to a cutting teammate. If opposing teams elect to sag off Thompson, he will rain threes all night. His well-timed off ball movements make him extremely difficult to guard.
