The season is upon us and the conversations have started about the teams to beat and who will win it all when the season comes to a close. Here are my way too early predictions and early-season favorites in the state. Not considering select or non-select, these are my picks for the best teams in each Class or Division. All things considered, these teams have the goods going into the season to win it all.

2A/ Division IIl

Country Day are the defending champions and return their core players and possibly their most important piece. [player_tooltip player_id='2894761' first='Hermon' last='Dyson']. Dyson is one of the most difficult pieces to solve due to his extremely high basketball IQ and full spectrum basketball skill. Adding to his return Day brings back [player_tooltip player_id='2471563' first='Kellen' last='Brewer'] who picked up an offer from Arizona State this summer while playing on the EYBL Circuit, [player_tooltip player_id='2883348' first='Curtis' last='McAllister'] another player with a big summer, and they return their point guard Brennan White. White had a big summer improving his already impressive ability to knock down shots. Look out for Freshman Rhys Diley because he could be another key piece to this quickly developing squad. One more name to add is [player_tooltip player_id='2532085' first='Chase' last='Knight']. After watching him at a PrepHoops Showcase this summer, he adds another scoring guard with unlimited potential on both sides of the ball. Country Day is loaded, and if I had to make a bet today, as much as I like Calvary Baptist, I give Day the slight edge, and the [player_tooltip player_id='2894761' first='Hermon' last='Dyson'] factor. The kid is just too tough to figure out.

1A/ Division IV

Hamilton Christian are the defending Champions and even though Crescent City is dangerous with [player_tooltip player_id='1543685' first='Dwight' last='Magee'] and their cast of players, I think Coach Dexter Washington and his squad are the team to beat. In order to be the champs you have to beat the Champs is the LBR and Kris Goff Motto, and I have to agree in this situation. After constantly betting against this group last season, watching their intensity and style of play I think they have best shot to get back and win. Junior phenom [player_tooltip player_id='2313822' first='Javon' last='Vital'] is just the type of player that can put a team on his back and carry them to another Championship. Losing Seth Ned and other key pieces will make it tough, but their program and pedigree should have them right back in the thick of it all. Coaching, player leadership and culture matter when it comes to winning. Coach Washington has made me a believer, and this season I will support his vision and give his squad the target on their backs instead the title of underdog.

Class B

Anacoco adds Freshman [player_tooltip player_id='2257910' first='Landon' last='Tinsley'] to their roster, and after watching him this summer along with some of their other players I think they will be the team to beat in the Class B Division. I know that Quitman brings an experienced team with shooters and some size, but Anacoco just seems like the team to beat. Tinsley will be paired with PG Caleb Taylor and [player_tooltip player_id='2898145' first='Ethan' last='Prichard'], along with some young talent I was able to watch this summer. Tinsely is a legit 6'6 player with skill beyond his years, and size beyond his age. The entire division has some key pieces, but I don't think that there is a program that will be able to control Tinsley in the post, and even if they can slow him on the block, the kid is a willing passer and he can step out and shoot the ball. This team could be favored for the next four years, so just get used to hearing the name.

Class C

Gibsland-Coleman will be the team to beat in the Class C Division. They fell short last season, but they bring back a huge offensive threat in [player_tooltip player_id='1680598' first='DeMarquis' last='Durham'] . Their schedule will be tough this season, but after losing a heart breaker last season. I think Gibsland regroups and redeems themselves on the big stage this season. Durham will be the motor for this team, and I just don't see any team that will be able to slow him down because he checks all of the boxes for a next level player. He will be assisted by De'Avery Durham and and Deveryuan Moore, and both are talented scorers on this roster. These boys have been playing together year round and that team symmetry will carry them a long way and should bring them right back to the State Championship and bring back another title to the town of Gibsland.
