When Section 2A teams are playing this year in league play, non league play, section play, whatever, the majority of these games are going to be a slugfest.

Super Summary

This is a section of 22 teams and obviously there were be some teams that aren't as good, it happens. But with so many good teams missing some pieces but still having good players, and so many up and coming teams, and up and coming young players, this should be a nightly battle.

Janesviille-Waldorf-Pemberton is the one super talented team that brings just about everything back which makes them the favorite. There are so many contenders you can't call JWP the run away favorites but they are the sure favorites. With Dalton Bauer back (21.5ppg last year), [player_tooltip player_id='2386616' first='Gavin' last='Bauer'] returning (19ppg), [player_tooltip player_id='1560813' first='Caleb' last='Quast'] returning (all league honored), plus juniors [player_tooltip player_id='2815258' first='Gavin' last='Weedman'], Jeffrey Simonson and Parker Gearity all back, yes, it's an obvious choice at number one.

That said....

BOLD: went to state last year and lost their best player but always battle tested and have enough returning to contend again

GFW: I really like [player_tooltip player_id='2119602' first='Cole' last='Jacobson'] and I think he will have them over .500 at least

Lester Prairie: I feel like the Bulldogs have a next man tradition that few can match and they always play tough. Eli Lamott is next up.

Madelia: Not only do the Hawks have another emerging start in [player_tooltip player_id='2425100' first='Kaydon' last='Firchau'], they have a lot of their rotation returning.

Mankato Loyola: they will flip that 12-15 record around at the very least. TJ O'Malley is a good guard at 6'3 and I really like sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='2673170' first='Covin' last='Winter'] who is versatile and averaged double figures as a freshman. He could have a huge sophomore season.

Mayer Lutheran: Ben Lindesmth scored a dozen a game last season and will step into the role as top shooter/scorer

Nicollet: Winless just two years ago, they improved by 14 games to get to .500 last year. Winless to .500! You don't see that much. Another step will be taken by a very good junior class led by Henry Kennedy and Carson Kettner.

Sleepy Eye: We have talked about [player_tooltip player_id='2140563' first='Brayden' last='Heiderscheidt'] a lot lately and with good reason. They were .500 last year and gained a ton of experience.

SESM: Dipped below .500 for a year but that seems to be temporary. Adam teffensmeieir is their top guy and he is going to be a junior.

Springfield: bring back almost everything but they did lose Sturm. That said, a tradition winner that has [player_tooltip player_id='2399032' first='Bryan' last='Buerkle'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2423280' first='[player_tooltip player_id='2419072' first='Brecken' last='']' last='Heiling'] returning all league players ready to lead this top ten in state team/program.

Top 3 2A Players

Dalton Bauer of JWP

[player_tooltip player_id='2386616' first='Gavin' last='Bauer'] of JWP

[player_tooltip player_id='2425100' first='Kaydon' last='Firchau'] of Madelia

Three Teams That Should Improve Their Record

Mankato Loyola (12-15 last season)

Sleepy Eye (14-14 last year)

Nicollet (14-14 a year ago)

Three Teams That Might Not Match Last Year's Win Total

BOLD (20-12 last year)

Cedar Mountain (25-4 a year ago)

Martin County West (10-18 last season)

When Section 2A teams are playing this year in league play, non league play, section play, whatever, the majority of these games are going to be a slugfest.
