NJ Legacy Paterson Fall Ball: Monday, October 27th Notables

Fall leagues are in full swing across New Jersey, with high school prospects showcasing their skills in a variety of preseason leagues and events throughout the state. Even early on, players are beginning to define or expand — their roles ahead of the upcoming season. Among the highlights of the fall schedule is the New Jersey Legacy Fall Ball League, hosted at the historic Paterson Catholic in Paterson, NJ. With that backdrop, here's a look at some of the standout performers from Monday night's action.    A strong and physical downhill driver who invites contact, [player_tooltip player_id='2342644' first='Justin' last='Hunt'] thrived in the ways he was able to generate rim pressure Monday afternoon. Hunt excelled at playing through bumps and contact, whether it was finishing strong at the basket or getting to the free throw line. Hunt also flashed his passing ability with a few instinctual passes he made on the ball.     Providing nice floor spacing for Newark East Side over the course of Monday's action, Amari Delacruz excelled as a spot up shooter from three point range. Delacruz converted on a number of open and in rhythm looks. Delacruz also did a good job of shouldering some of the ball handling responsibilities and initiating offense.     Aggressive in scoring the basketball Monday afternoon, [player_tooltip player_id='2763539' first='Omar' last='Mangassouba'] demonstrated a diverse scoring attack. Mangassouba's performance saw him knock down spot up threes, attack closeouts and finish through contact at the basket, and even hit smooth turn around fade aways in the mid range area. Mangassouba seems to have taken strides in his versatility as a scorer and showcased a little bit of that during Monday's action.     A high energy guard who plays with a relentless level of intensity and an insane motor, [player_tooltip player_id='2788641' first='Gavin' last='Roach'] lived in the paint Monday evening. What seemed to be a paint touch almost every time he got the ball, Roach showcased his finishing ability with a handful of different runners and floaters and some finger roll layups at the rim attacking closeouts. Roach was also extremely active on the offensive glass, getting a number of putbacks and generating second chance opportunities for West Side.     Providing a solid paint presence for West Side, Akbar Cook Jr. was a difference maker on the interior throughout the course of Monday evening's action. Cook Jr. was impactful not only as an inside finisher but also as a rebounder. Cook showed improved touch around the basket and softer hands on the catch, flashing his ability to both catch and finish as well as catch, make a move and finish in the low post.     Erupting for a loud scoring performance that saw him live at the rim, Adin Goldschneider was an aggressive downhill scorer Monday evening. Goldschneider used an impressive mix of change of pace and creative change of direction dribbles to get to the rim and finish with finesse and craftiness around the basket. Goldschneider also showcased his ability to also be a strong and physical driver and played through different bumps, highlighting his ability to play and finish through contact.     AJ Farell demonstrated an interesting combination of outside scoring and impact on the defensive end. A legitimate threat from three point range, Farrell showcased his effectiveness as a spot up shooter while also knocking down a number of smooth pull up jumpers from behind the three point line. Farrell mixed in some strong dribble drives off the bounce, that ultimately helped generate a handful of trips to the free throw line. Farrell also put together some good moments that highlighted his instinctual passing ability both in the flow of the offense and out the PnR. On the defensive end of the floor, Farrell played with a great intensity level and coupled that with his length to frustrate opposing ball handlers and force constant deflections.     With Newark Collegiate being a little short handed from the guard position Monday evening, [player_tooltip player_id='1853445' first='Ali' last='Kelleh'] saw a lot of reps on the ball that saw him showcase a little bit of his versatility as a scorer. Seeing a high usage a rate that featured him score both on and off the ball, Kelleh showcased his ability to be an effective spot up shooter while also mixing in some strong attacks at the basket both in transition and semi transition opportunities. With his intimidating length combined with his high motor, Kelleh was also a difference maker on the defensive end of the floor.
