Heading into the high school season, I would like to highlight some players that I think are underrated or under recruited by colleges. These players are, in my opinion, either being overlooked by colleges at the level they could play for, or don't have enough schools at that level that are aware of the impact they could bring. Here's a look at seven guards in small markets in the state that should be getting more love from college coaches.

[player_tooltip player_id='2309973' first='Kobe' last='Morrison'] | 6'1” CG | GW Danville

Morrison was a Second Team All State selection last year for Danville, and is one of the better under the radar guards from that area that could make an immediate impact at the next level with his blend of shot making and playmaking on the offensive end. The 6'1” lefty is very good off the bounce at creating space with step backs and has great balance to hit shots from multiple levels with them, he moves well off the ball and can make shots off the catch and on the move, he can break down defenders and make good reads on dive-and-kicks and ball screens, and he brings a competitive chip to him as well.

[player_tooltip player_id='1588114' first='Tristan' last='Isenhour'] | 6'3” PG | New Covenant

Isenhour has led a very successful program in New Covenant since he came in as a freshman, leading his team to a Final Four appearance his freshman year and a state championship his sophomore year, and that type of leadership and winning play could help a program at the next level too. He has good size for a guard at 6'3” and uses his size to see over defenders and hit tough shots with little to no space, he can control the game with his patience and ability to control the tempo, and his mix of high IQ and toughness allows him to make winning plays consistently.

[player_tooltip player_id='2880087' first='Shawn' last='Turner'] | 6'2” CG | Cave Spring

Turner had a breakout junior season for a Cave Spring team that was very young but should be one to watch for in the next few seasons, and his bully ball style as a ball handler makes him a tough matchup for anyone. The 6'2” guard is a monster when he gets downhill and uses his strength to finish through contact, he can knock down open shots off the catch, he has good footwork to get to the pull-up, and he isn't afraid to get physical on the defensive end either.

[player_tooltip player_id='2624539' first='Austin' last='Agosto'] | 5'11” PG | Blue Ridge

Agosto is the younger brother of former Blue Ridge and Fordham standout Josh Colon, and he much like Colon he's very under recruited going into his senior season on one of the best programs in the state. The 5'11” guard can flat out boogie as he is shifty and changes speeds well to get by defenders, he can get to spots off the bounce and hit contested shots from the midrange and from deep, he gets under defenders and can guard the length of the floor, and he has a great IQ as a playmaker as well.

[player_tooltip player_id='1595768' first='Wade' last='Bland'] | 6'2” CG | Stuart Hall

Bland was a key part in Stuart Hall winning the VISAA D-IV state championship last year, and after being an All State scoring guard at Christiansburg before transferring he showed he can also play within a system of other talented players too. At 6'2” with a strong frame he's able to body up and keep defenders in front defensively, he shoots the ball well from deep both off the catch and off the bounce, and he's very good attacking off the bounce to get to the rim or make plays for others too.

[player_tooltip player_id='2618871' first='Jackson' last='Wallace'] | 6'0” CG | Stafford

Wallace is one of the best scoring guards in the Fredericksburg area, and while he can fill it up in bunches he also still has room to polish and would be a great addition to a backcourt moving forward. He is a true scorer that can get to spots off the bounce and has good elevation to rise up and make contested shots, he shoots the ball well from deep off the catch, he gets to the rim and draws contact well while also being able to finish through it, and while he's a scorer he's also an unselfish playmaker as well.

[player_tooltip player_id='2880098' first='Spencer' last='Fisher'] | 5'11” PG | Altavista

Altavista was once a powerhouse who won three straight state championships about a decade ago behind future NFL stars the Thornhill twins, and now they have a chance to get back to the promise land behind their high IQ and sharpshooting guard [player_tooltip player_id='2880098' first='Spencer' last='Fisher'], who coaches need to learn about. The 5'11” guard was an All State selection last year putting up huge numbers behind his blistering shot making ability from deep, his ability to push in transition and make plays for others, and his fantastic instincts on the defensive end too.
