With the updated 2027 rankings coming out earlier this summer, we decided to take a look at who some of the top players at each position are. Here's a look at part two of the top ranked point and combo guards in the junior class in VA.

5) [player_tooltip player_id='2316556' first='Camontae' last='Griffin Jr.'] | 6'1” PG | Gillion Academy (#20 Overall)

Griffin is part of an influx of transfers to Gillion Academy, a school in their second year of existence, after spending last season at Word of God in North Carolina. The 6'1” guard is very intriguing as an all-around contributor, as he is a well built and shifty guard who can create for himself and others off the bounce, while also being physical enough to guard both on the ball and switch onto bigger defenders and use his strength and quickness to his advantage. He is able to create space off the bounce and make tough shots from multiple levels, he has good vision and playmaking that puts his teammates in positions to score it easily, and he has a knack for playing his best basketball in big moments and against top tier matchups.

4) [player_tooltip player_id='2353606' first='Amani' last='Asare'] | 6'0” PG | Highland (#16 Overall)

Asare transferred to Highland after having a huge sophomore season at Potomac where he was named All State, and so far in his time with the defending VISAA D-I state champions he looks like he will be the heart and soul of this group. He's a true tone setter on the defensive end of the floor, as he's a terrific point of attack on ball defender who can hound ball handlers the length of the floor and disrupt the flow of the offense. He's a talented shot maker who can knock it down from deep with range, he is quick and shifty with the ability to create space and hit tough shots in the midrange, and he's a strong finisher when he gets downhill to the rim with the ability to draw and finish through contact too.

3) [player_tooltip player_id='1782691' first='Jordan' last='Hunter'] | 6'3” PG | Hargrave (#5 Overall)

Hunter was formerly at Paul VI before transferring to a school in North Carolina where he reclassified to the 2027 class, and then this summer enrolled at Hargrave where he was super impressive with them during the summer live periods. A legit 6'3” now with a strong frame and ridiculously quick burst, he puts a tremendous amount of pressure on the defense and on the rim with his ability to get downhill and use his strength and athleticism to finish at the rim. He is dynamite in transition with his end-to-end speed, he has good feel as a playmaker, he's a very good on ball defender, and he can score it in bunches from multiple levels.

2) [player_tooltip player_id='2470549' first='Makel' last='Minor'] | 6'2” PG | James Monroe (#4 Overall)

Minor transferred back to James Monroe where he was the best freshman in the state after a year at Bishop O'Connell where he helped them to a VISAA D-I runner up season, and after a huge summer with [program_tooltip program_id='2226307' first='Team' last='Loaded VA'] he has risen to a nationally ranked prospect with multiple high major offers already. He's the definition of a bucket getter, as he can score the ball from all over the floor, and is able to work on or off the ball and make the toughest of shots and make it look easy. While he isn't the most explosive he can create space with his footwork and only needs a sliver of space to get his shot off, he can hit step backs out well past the three-point line, he's crafty drawing contact and getting to the line on pull-ups and drives to the rim, and when he gets hot he is an absolute nightmare to have to guard.

1) [player_tooltip player_id='2353544' first='Corey' last='Dixon'] | 6'3” CG | Bishop O'Connell (#3 Overall)

Dixon transferred to Bishop O'Connell from Maryland this summer, and throughout DMV Live it was clear that O'Connell may have the best backcourt in the WCAC or even the entire DMV this season with his addition. The son of Maryland legend Juan Dixon, he's a super well-rounded guard who has a blend of skill, IQ, toughness and athleticism that makes him very productive across the board. He's shifty with the rock and has great change of pace and burst, allowing him to get downhill to get to finish at the rim or make plays for others. He is able to create space off the bounce to score the ball from deep or in the midrange, he can knock down shots off the catch from deep, he has great feel as a playmaker, and he's competitor who thrives in big time matchups and takes pride on the defensive end too.
