GASO brought the heat to the city of Houston last weekend filling up MI3 Center with fans, media, and scouts alike. The venue was packed all day with high level competition, top standouts from Greater Houston, and college coaches looking for the "next big thing". So many different games were close and action packed that it was hard to pick just a few, but here are some prospects who stood out to me above the rest on Saturday afternoon/evening.

[player_tooltip player_id='2399909' first='Will' last='Arriaga'] is a lengthy forward with a good feel for the game. Leading Houston Christian to a statement win over the EOP Kings, Arriaga showed that he can score at all 3 levels and do more than just put the ball in the hoop. His athleticism allows him to help out on rebounds, push the tempo in transition, and play good full court defense. Will is coming off a big summer with Team Dominate and it looks like he is ready to be a big-time leader this year for the Mustangs.

[player_tooltip player_id='2555369' first='Jacob' last='Mayberry'] showed off his offensive prowess in Cy Lakes game against Klein Cain, and no one could stop him going to the rim. He had a nasty posterizer over an opposing defender that totally swung the momentum towards Lakes, and they never looked back. Jacob can also knock down open jumpers when uncontested and uses his height to overpower defenders during key game possessions. Mayberry figures to be a top offensive player for Lakes this year after the loss of some key seniors from last season. Jacob will prove he is a college ready prospect with some impressive play this school year.

Josh was one of the more effective guards in transition during Beaumont United's heated afternoon game against Cy Ranch. Coleman has blazing speed on fastbreaks and uses high IQ to make quick decisions with the basketball in his hands. Josh can finish at the rim with tough defense despite being the most undersized player on the court and he does not let his height define him. Josh transferred from Nimitz HS to BU this year and will look to make an immediate impact at the point guard slot, where he can keep teammates involved at all times, but also be a leader for this Wolves team.

Slade was a bonafide shooter in Bridgeland's game victory over Shadow Creek on Saturday. Sugarman lit up the long-range game with several three-point bombs and proceeded to keep up the efficient marksmanship as the game progressed. He moves very well without the ball, and he also is one of the team's best perimeter defenders, displaying great fundamentals on that end as well. I enjoyed watching Sugarman's hustle for loose balls on the floor as he was willing to put his body on the line to gain extra possessions for his team when momentum was at stake. Slade ultimately was one of the biggest key factors in helping Bridgeland go 2-0 this weekend.

Jayden was an underrated multi-tool combo guard in College Park's close loss to Hightower during the afternoon tournament slate. Heidelberger spent time at both the one and two slots this game, helping distribute also locking in and scoring when his team needed a basket in crunch time. He uses his long wingspan and strides to skate past defenders going to the paint and he also can shoot over the top of opponents from long distance. Jayden was my biggest sleeper prospect I watched this weekend, and he has now made his way onto my radar for the rest of his high school playing career.
