One of the first (and strangest) elite camps I ever coversd was at Morey Courts in Mount Pleasant. It happened roughly a few months into a global pandemic. The staff at Mid Michigan college did an admirable job to provide some semblance of “non contact basketbal” for players who were starving for it.

Five years later much has changed. However head coach Caleb House is still at helm and Mid Michigan CC continues to provide quality competition in their elite camps.

Following are five standouts from Thursday night's iteration.

[player_tooltip player_id='1806408' first='Jaden' last='Garwood'] 6-4 Detroit UD Jesuit (pictured) Might have been the most physically advanced player in camp. A solid 6-4 frame with plenty of bounce and athleticism. Handles the ball the like a guard and showed a mature game as well. Didn't force things or put up hero ball shots. Which you sometimes see in settings like these. Not super quick, but falls in the “plays at his own pace” category. He's going to get where he needs to be. A “ gym's open” player. Meaning if a gym is open somewhere in this state he's playing in it. That work ethic could make him pop at the next level. With a new coach and some graduation attrition at Jesuit. He could be in line for a big senior season.

[player_tooltip player_id='2360477' first='Cooper' last='Boike'] 6-3 2026 Genesee Christian With his last name and place of origin. I fully expected to see a shooter. While Boike certainly showed that, there was plenty more to his game. First off, as a Division IV player, he's not small. Stands a legit 6-3 with a strong frame. Made plays out in transition including a nice finish with a ground covering Euro step. Good ball handler and look ahead passer as well. Gets into his shooting quickly and has no wasted motion on his release. Could be one of the top players in Division IV in the upcoming year.

[player_tooltip player_id='2218029' first='Lemonte' last='Wiley'] 5-10 2026 Saginaw Heritage The best point guard in the camp by a pretty healthy margin. Was electric with the ball in his hands. Showed a “ball on a string” handle. When combined with the low center of gravity, this is a difficult player to turnover. Jet quick and decisive on penetration. As you would expect from this description. Won the one-on-one portion of the camp. You couldn't sag off him however. Pure shooter with an effortless release. I'm not sure he missed a single shot during the shooting stations. Could have a big senior year for a Heritage program that will be one of the top teams in state. With Jaylin Cooper on the wing and Noah Arnold (Saginaw Valley St) in the post. Wiley will have ample assist and playmaking opportunities.

[player_tooltip player_id='2430533' first='Dayne' last='Ivey'] 6-2 2027 Pinconning The only non senior to make the cut on this list. I've liked Ivey's old school guard game for going on two years now. Plays with [program_tooltip program_id='2429901' first='REAL' last='Basketball'] that practices out of Mid Michigan's gym, so he made himself right at home. A unique player I would categorize as a “power two guard”. Is country strong with a thick upper body and broad shoulders. Doesn't mind and finishes through contact often on drives. Showed more lead guard potential on Thursday night. Leading the break and finding open players in drill stations. At 6-2, he could broaden his horizons with more of a point guard skill set. He appeared to twist his ankle a bit early. So I didn't see his ability to play above the rim as pronounced. Trust me though, he can off the ground with best of them.

[player_tooltip player_id='1890555' first='Bryce' last='Pratl'] 6-3 2026 St Johns I didn't catch Pratl as much this spring/summer as I did the prior grassroots season. He has definitely shown improvement in that time. Plays much taller than his listed height due to a lanky frame and impressive vertical. Had a nice tip dunk that showed this off. More than an athlete though. Good ball handler who got to his spots easily on the perimeter. Once there easily rose over most defenders on a well schooled and fundamentally sound jump shot. The Lansing area wing could have a breakout senior year.
