CHSAA “A” Players to Watch

The CHSAA is one of the most competitive high school basketball leagues in New York, with standout talent across every division. In this first installment of the CHSAA Player Watch, we'll spotlight a few rising stars from Class A, each making a major impact on their programs and the league.    An All-State selection and CHSAA All-League Team prospect, he averaged over 20 points per game while demonstrating the same high-level IQ on the court that he applies in the classroom. As a versatile scorer, he can stretch the floor with his shooting or attack downhill with strength and precision, making him a consistent threat in any offensive system.     He earned All-League CHSAA honors last season and continues to impress with his ability to attack downhill using explosive bursts of speed. His exceptional quickness powers a lightning-fast first step, making him a constant threat off the dribble. As a versatile finisher in the paint he keeps defenders off balance, rarely allowing them to dictate his direction. Paired with a high basketball IQ, he thrives as a playmaker, delivering crisp, timely passes that elevate his team's offensive rhythm and create high-percentage opportunities.     He was named to the CHSAA A All-League Team, a testament to his impact on the court. A confident left-handed shooter with deep range, Yates consistently stretches defenses beyond the arc. He's shown the ability to create off the dribble and has demonstrated strong playmaking instincts and sound decision-making. His impressive body control allows him to stay composed and finish effectively when attacking downhill.     He's an effective shooter from deep and a versatile three-level scorer with impressive size and a polished skill set. His ability to defend multiple positions adds to his value, making him an intriguing two-way prospect with strong upside.     He earned CHSAA A All-League Team honors as a junior, showcasing his impact on both ends of the floor. With explosive quickness, he consistently gets into the paint and finishes in a variety of ways. A reliable shooter from deep, he's effective both from the catch and off the dribble. His high basketball IQ enables him to read defenses and deliver pinpoint passes, making him a dynamic playmaker.     Edwards brings high energy to the court, consistently pushing the pace with a north-south playing style that keeps defenses on their heels. He finishes with authority around the rim, leveraging his athleticism and power to finish through contact. As a dependable three-point shooter, he stretches the floor and forces defenders to respect his range. His speed and quickness make him a dynamic threat whether initiating the offense as a ball handler or serving as a secondary scoring option. Edwards capped off the season with honors as a New York All-State and CHSAA A All-League selection.     He is an exceptional outside shooter with unlimited range, combining precision with confidence. He's quick with the ball  and equally dangerous off it, he keeps defenders on their heels. His explosive first step, paired with good quickness, allows him to consistently penetrate the paint. As a playmaker, his sharp court vision enables him to find teammates in stride and create scoring opportunities. As a sophomore, he earned CHSAA A All-League honors, a testament to his impact on both ends of the floor.
