School just started.

We're almost to the halfway point of August.

Now, we all can start the countdown to the 2025 season.

TSSAA 4A District 15 will have quality guards this upcoming season. The district will also feature some quality wings. Each prospect will be important to their teams' success.

Let's take a look at potential player of the year candidates in the district:

[player_tooltip player_id='2194475' first='Braylon' last='Williams'], Bartlett: Williams had a solid freshman season, shouldering the responsibilities of leading the Panthers from the point guard spot. He will have to do so again in 2025, especially with [player_tooltip player_id='2291122' first='Dylan' last='Jones'] taking his talents to the newly-built Tennessee Collegiate Academy in Millington, Tennessee. Williams will have to be a consistent 20-point scorer for Bartlett. Can he do it? Absolutely. Williams, who averaged 14 points and 4 assists last season, can make shots from the perimeter. He does a good job getting to his spots coming off high ball screens. He takes quality shots. Williams led Bartlett in 3-point field goal percentage (40 percent) and free throw percentage (80 percent) in 2024.

Williams' sophomore season should be a productive one.

[player_tooltip player_id='2101889' first='Justin' last='Frison'], Houston: The Mustangs lost two key seniors from last season's team (Kaleb Jeffries and Keron Jackson). [player_tooltip player_id='2866173' first='Chase' last='Givens'] transferred to Tennessee Collegiate Academy. More will be on Frison's plate from an offensive standpoint. The basketball will be in his hands. Frison will need to be a consistent 25-point scorer for Houston's chances of finishing at the top of the district. He's a three-level scorer. Frison can make shots from 3, at the elbow, and near the rim. Houston has needed Frison to lead the program since his arrival. The Mustangs will need the junior point guard with an aggressive scoring mindset.

[player_tooltip player_id='2624485' first='RJ' last='Tate'], Arlington: Tate looks to score. He's a bucket. Each time he touches the basketball, Tate has to have the defense's attention because of his shotmaking ability. The Tigers will have one of the best guards in the district this upcoming season. Tate can easily be penciled in as a double-digit scorer. Consistent play from Tate will have Arlington in contention for the district title.

[player_tooltip player_id='2194617' first='DJ' last='Okoth'], Bartlett: Okoth will benefit playing alongside sophomore point guard [player_tooltip player_id='2194475' first='Braylon' last='Williams']. Williams will get a lot of attention, which can take some off of the 6-foot-5 Okoth. He finishes well around the rim. Okoth rebounds the basketball well. It's expected for him to get second-chance points. It's expected for him to be a double-digit scorer.

[player_tooltip player_id='2111892' first='Jordan' last='Myles'], Houston: Myles is one of the best knockdown shooters in the 2027 class. The Mustangs will need him to make a lot of jumpers in 2025. It will mainly be him and Frison as the team's best offensive players. Myles will need to crash the boards. He will need to help out with the ball handling responsibilities. This is a good opportunity for Myles. He will need to take advantage of it.
