Summer is an exciting time of year, seeing these athletes get in the gym and put in the work needed to better their game is fun to watch. This article is the first of several in a series of "Players Under the Radar" as I dive deep into the gyms across SD and ND to find guys that really deserve to be acclimated for the time they are putting in. These players not only are doing the work, they are also guys you will no doubt see making monster impacts on their teams this winter.

Spencer is an absolute beast of athlete, making his mark in multiple sports last season. He uses his lighting quick speed to dominate defenders off the dribble. He's a strong finisher and can hit the outside shot when given that opportunity. I watched Spencer play a game this summer and I couldn't help but notice him always winning those 50/50 balls, most of which he poked loose on defense himself. Spencer will be a handful in what is going be a tough Lake Region Conference this coming season.

Look for Parker to be a real impact this season for the Spartans fresh off a 4th place finish at State last season. Parker uses speed and athleticism to get open looks that he rarely misses. He can get very hot from 3 and will fill up a scoreboard in a hurry. Wessington Springs should be in the hunt for another trip to State and Parker is a big reason why.

Ben led his team in points last season with 12.5 ppg. Look for that number to grow as his time in the gym this summer has really paid off. His shot looks great and his handles are improving. Look for this experienced team to shake things up in the Big East Conference this season.

The Cougars graduated their height last season so it's up to Nolan and his 6'4 body to take up the slack this season. Kolthoff has a knack for the ball and reads it well off the rim. He's put on some muscle this summer and can hold his own in the paint when needed. I like how smooth he runs the floor and can get downhill with the ball. Look for him to help lead this defending State Champion team back to another strong season.

Westyn has played the sole role of a shooter the past couple seasons. He will be expected to carry the load this year, I expect this will be his break out season no doubt. He's a pure shooter and can't be left alone. His ball skills have improved this summer and he will be counted on heavily to handle the show for the Titans. He's a crafty passer with a strong game IQ.

The Spartans put 2 players on my short list of class B seniors and it's no secret why. Colby is one of the hardest workers on the floor every game. He owns the paint and rebounds extremely well. Look for the Spartans to utilize Colby's strength and ability to get points in the paint on the regular.

The Knights had a break out season last year that not everyone saw coming. Grady had a great state tournament appearance avg 10 ppg. The best part of his game is his ability to guard the 1-5 positions on any given night. He's an athletic and very versatile player who cuts to the rim extremely well. He maintains the teams energy with his leadership and hard work. Look for Jett to have a larger role on his team this year as they are sure to compete for a State Tourney birth once again.

Clark has been injured the past 2 seasons. I have seen a few glimpses of his game and he will no doubt be a factor for the Titans success this year. He's a shooter and will be relied on for just that. He may also present some mismatch options for his team as he's a strong kid who can get points inside. Winston should have a break out season for Leola-Frederick.
