Summer is always the time of year to catch up with players transferring schools and see how they are fitting in with their new squads. I was able to attend the WIBCA June D1 Recruiting Event over the weekend and get to know some of the familiar faces donning new uniforms. Here are a few names that stood out at the event while lining up with new schools.

One of the top risers from last season, Luok makes the move to Garfield by way of Auburn Mountainview, where he was a second-team all-league selection last winter. The long guard/wing was already making an impact on the defensive end at the event, pinning shots against the backboard, racking up deflections, and showing why he's a high-upside player who is still only scratching the surface. He also showed some good decisions on the offensive end off of his drives, getting to the rim and showing the willingness to dish the ball and make the right play. He made a big impact in transition as well, finishing up at the rim and going up strong through contact.

[player_tooltip player_id='2894475' first='Noah' last='Owyak'] | 6'4 | SG | Garfield | 2026

Another new Bulldog, Owyak was last on our radar as a member of BFL Prep two seasons ago. He comes back and has instantly showcased his ability to score the rock with a blend of athleticism and touch, which allows him to score in and around the paint with a variety of moves. He's a pretty strong kid who can bully his way through gaps, but also showed the touch at the event to knock down shots in the midrange with some good consistency.

[player_tooltip player_id='2894471' first='Mason' last='Hamilton'] | 6'7 | SF | Camas | 2026

One of the biggest and most pleasant surprises of all the new faces over the weekend was Hamilton joining Camas. He was down at Columbia (White Salmon) last season and put up some big numbers, but in my first in-person viewing of the 6-foot-7 forward, he really impressed with his ability to fit into the fold with the Papermakers and be an instant impact player. He has good touch with his jumper, can hit from 3-point range and working in the midrange. But the most promising part of his play this past weekend was his ability to adjust to some more physical gameplay and start giving it back in the paint. He had some nice finishes around bodies inside and was able to use his size and weight to push some defenders around. Should be a big piece for Camas, who could be a quick riser this winter.

[player_tooltip player_id='1936885' first='Edison' last='Kan'] | 6'2 | CG | Glacier Peak | 2027

Kan was at Bellevue Christian two years ago as a freshman, went to Elite Prep last year as a sophomore, and now is suiting up with Glacier Peak heading into his junior year. He quickly stood out as one of the more impactful scorers of the weekend, leading the Grizzlies in scoring in three of their games (32 pts vs Colfax, 35 pts vs Eastside Catholic, 18 pts vs Wilsonville). He was very effective getting to the rim with quick attacks off the catch, but also showed some impressive efficiency with volume from behind the arc. He's got the strength at the guard spot to be an effective downhill scorer, and the way he shot the ball from deep indicates he's in for a big winter.

[player_tooltip player_id='2140802' first='Achilles' last='Reyna'] | 6'7 | PF | Rainier Beach | 2027

Reyna joins the reigning 3A champs after spending the last two seasons with the Eastside Catholic Crusaders. He's gotten a lot stronger over the past two years while retaining some impressive ball skills, and it showed up over the weekend with his ability to play inside and out. He took advantage of weaker matchups in the post by backing them down and making quick, strong moves to the hoop. Showed he can step out and knock down some threes to pull his man further out, and made a couple of really smooth touch passes and saves to find teammates from precarious positions.
