This past weekend, I attended the Zero Gravity Finals at the Dana Barros Basketball Club in Stoughton, MA. I watched teams in the 10th grade and varsity divisions, mostly in the top division of each.

As always, it's impossible to see all of the teams in any given division — there are tons of locations and a handful of games going at once at all times. I try to watch as many games and players as I can. So, this week, I'll be recapping some of the players that stood out.

Bakri is a tough shot maker. I won't lie, he certainly took some questionable ones, but there isn't much you can say when he's able to elevate above the defense and get a shot off no matter what. He can shoot it from the three and the mid range with very solid consistency, and he doesn't need to be set to get a decent shot off. He'll definitely need to improve his passing ability if he wants to play ball at the next level, but he's 6-foot-5 and can hit tough shots, so he definitely has a chance. Will be curious to see how his game develops next season at Springfield Commonwealth Academy.

Ormond was Next Play's most impressive player in the one game I watched them play. The 6-foot-4 wing has a beautiful-looking shot and gets great elevation on his jumper no matter where he shoots it from. He can also dart into the lane and finish with good elevation and strength and has solid vision when the defense comes to help. The junior plays at Springside Chestnut Hill School and is getting some scholarship looks according to his AAU coaches. If those schools don't work out, I could imagine him playing at the highest level D3 schools.

Brennan is super fun to watch on the basketball court. He's 6-foot-4 but can play the wing or forward position or even the small ball 5 spot at times. He's so skilled with the ball in his hands; great footwork on drives to the paint (uses the slow step so well), awesome jab step moves on the perimeter, and a really nice-looking three point shot. He's also a great passer out of the post and plays the game the right way. My guess would be that the junior has a great season at Holderness next year and finds an incredibly high level D3 fit when the time comes. He's going to make a coach so happy with his shot selection and IQ.

Toure might be the freakiest high school athlete I've ever seen in person. Yes, I said it. The 6-foot-6 wing is an absurd leaper who can jump off one or two feet and has an amazingly effective second jump if he misses a layup or floater at the hoop. He's also super strong and can blow by defenders effortlessly with his quick first step. There isn't any area of athleticism that he isn't elite at. Oh, and he's also a skilled shooter and ball handler with a willingness to pass. Toure took BABC home in the championship game on Sunday and is their best player in my opinion. Potential NBA player if he keeps working, although it's very early.

Martin put Mass Rivals on his back towards the end of the 17u championship game against BABC, hitting about a handful of corner threes in the second half to bring them back from a significant deficit. The 6-foot-4 wing has a beautiful stroke and can get it off quickly, but he could certainly use some work on his driving game and the ability to score within the arc. Perhaps some more on-ball reps with Wilbraham and Monson next prep school season will help develop this area of his game and get him some more scholarship looks. Right now, I feel like he's best suited as a high level D3 player, though I could see him going higher.
