Expert Analysis
Will Armishaw | Prep Hoops Scout
Martin, a guard out of Wilbraham & Monson Academy, stood out in his game set with his ability to make tough shots from behind the arc. The 6’4″ guard has leaned out, allowing him to play with more wiggle and burst as a driver, while continuing to show the ability to be a high level shooter from behind the arc. Martin does a nice job of moving without the basketball, uses screens to his advantage, and turns down good shots to go after great ones. He competes on the defensive end of the floor and offers some upside as a rebounder.

Martin didn’t have his best shooting game, but the senior UMASS commit still showed some intriguing developments to his body. He looks a lot leaner and is therefore better able to slide his feet and contest shots on the defensive end, especially against smaller guards on switches or fast breaks. He’s always going to be able to shoot the rock (though he didn’t have his best shooting night against Winchendon), but his increased lateral quickness should open up some closeout driving opportunities with the dribble. Martin’s physical development will probably be the difference in how he fairs as a wing at the college level, so this year is a good time for him to grow in that regard.

Martin put Mass Rivals on his back towards the end of the 17u championship game against BABC, hitting about a handful of corner threes in the second half to bring them back from a significant deficit. The 6-foot-4 wing has a beautiful stroke and can get it off quickly, but he could certainly use some work on his driving game and the ability to score within the arc. Perhaps some more on-ball reps with Wilbraham and Monson next prep school season will help develop this area of his game and get him some more scholarship looks. Right now, I feel like he’s best suited as a high level D3 player, though I could see him going higher.

This player finds holes in the defense to get open with a quick release in tough close outs. He can instantly heat up knocking down 4 in a row from deep with a great rhythm. Has a good understanding to change his tempo while dribbling. Defensively rebounds very well for a guard getting in good positions, closes out without fouling. My prediction for Christian is a D3 player that can help a team in need to do the scrappy work defend bigger guards, rebound or make a key shot to release pressure off the top scorer.

Martin is a lethal shooter, and you can tell by the fact that he missed his first few shots and went on to make a handful in a row in the second half; even though he had some rough misses initially, he kept firing without any hesitation and showed the innate confidence he has in his stroke. Martin adds a lot of floor spacing for Wilbraham and Monson; with both him and Kranz (splash bros) on the floor, defenses are forced to give Ajakaiye and Okpara easy lanes to the rim. He fills a wonderful role than I could imagine him filling at the next level nicely.

Martin is a sturdy, 6-foot-4 guard with a flamethrower for a right arm. He has an amazing shot release and gets it off unbelievably quickly, off of both movement and standstill situations. He also makes the right pass consistently and without much thought. Defensively, he uses his strength to guard bigger players in the paint, but struggles at times to hang with quicker perimeter players. Adding some on-ball creation would go a long way for Martin, who has another year to improve his skillset and body.

Martin, an advanced scorer on the wing, should fill a big role at Wilbraham & Monson this winter. Coming off a strong summer with the Mass Rivals, Martin has solidified himself as one of the top perimeter shooters in the class. He does a great job of running wide in transition and doing his work before the catch to get set. He has a quick and consistent release and, as his reputation as a shooter has grown, has done a good job of utilizing shot fakes and space dribbles to keep the defense off balance. He’s a willing ball mover, instinctive cutter, and doesn’t play outside of himself. Defensively, he makes high IQ plays and does a good job of containing his man off the bounce. He has an elite skill in his ability to shoot the ball and should be someone that coaches begin tracking as soon as this fall.

Christian Martin Christian Martin 6'4" | SF Wilbraham & Monson | 2026 State New E is an off-ball shooter who can delightfully and efficiently light it up from downtown. His form is immaculate, and the ball zips through the net with ease and smoothness is apparent. Martin knows where to be on the court to succeed, as he relocates himself to winning situations and opportunities to knock down open threes. His high basketball IQ also translates to other parts of the court such as his vision. Martin can make advanced reads and find teammates around the perimeter area. He also has shown he can cut as well, broadening his offensive approach to the game. The steadiness and dependability that he provides are worth betting on and should make coaches and programs big fans of his.
