Oklahoma State Tournament: 16U Opening Day's Top Guards

On May 31st, 2025, the Oklahoma State Tournament's 16U bracket took place @ The Solid Rock Basketball Complex in Edmond, OK. I had a chance to witness some impressive guard play so far that honestly had me on the edge of my seat for numerous games on the day. Each game seemed closer than the other, and it capped off in the afternoon with a game-winning steal and score at the buzzer from a guard who was playing hard all game. It was good to see hard work pay off in the end. Meanwhile, countless other elite guards had their way on this day, and here are a few that caught my eye.      #1 for Team Elite Takeover AAU Club. Deion is aggressive, tough, and likes to communicate. He can play much bigger than his size and is able to help protect the rim. Can be a primary ball handler and doesn't mind being the primary scorer. Usually leads the team in scoring and all primary stats.     Can play big or small. Has a decent left touch/floater around the basket. Plays aggressively and doesn't mind handling the rock.     The kid has handles and can finish his sequence at the rim. He can handle the rock and walk on water! Has a game smoother than ice.     Clutch! Had game-winning steal and lay-up at the buzzer to beat the Servants Black 16U squad 72-70. Before that, he led the team in scoring and energy. played hard all game and was everywhere on the court. Most impressively, he doesn't let bad plays get him down, he stays in the game regardless of how good or bad he is playing. It just so happened that he played mostly great on this night. Not to mention, he is not afraid to dive on the floor and get a few scuff marks on him.     Pound-for-pound the best on-ball defender around... At least in the 16U Division at the Oklahoma State tournament that I've seen thus far. He is also the best Help-Defender around as well. The kid is flat-out everywhere on defense. If you put the ball down in front of him, good luck getting it back. Caleb can run for days, and he seems to know his strengths in that regard. He does a good job of understanding his size and uses it to his advantage when bigger guards try to dribble around him. Defensively, he gets it. Offensively, he is a willing passer and wants to make the right play. He seems to like being a true point and doesn't let his game revolve around scoring. He can still finish at the basket well for the most part, but the next phase of his improvement should be his spot-up jump shot technique. Has a decent follow-through; he just needs more legs in his shot and more arch/rotation on the ball.     Has a good feel for the game. Has a picture-perfect jump shot from unlimited range. He has impressive handles for a gifted shooter and has fluid movement with his game. He was consistently one of the team leaders in scoring for his Southern Assault Texoma AAU squad on the day and was impressive in every game. If he is open, it's going in.     Great energy guy. Solid leader on the floor. Communicates well and plays hard. At the guard position, he is not a stat stuffer or huge scorer, but he is everything else and then some, especially when it comes to winning time.     Really good shooter. Plays with high IQ, especially offensively. Has Great form and shoots with confidence. Spencer can score anywhere, but when he is beyond the arc, he becomes dangerous. Led Team Oklahoma 16U AAU squad in scoring for the day.     Instant Offense when he comes into the game. Has great shooting form and is the type of shooter you cannot leave open. Danniko doesn't mind banging with the bigs on the other end of the floor and plays strong on that end. Danikko has a football body and plays that way, but his touch is feathery. Dannikko can develop a rhythm from outside, and if he does, watch out!     #40 Servants Black 16U team leader in scoring on this day with a well-balanced attack on every area of the floor from 3-point range to attacking the paint and then to getting Rebounds and pushing it up the floor. Plays big and plays small when duty calls for it. Can attack the Offensive boards as well as the Defensive boards as a big guard. Plays relentlessly and brings constant energy to the team with his play. Most importantly, Trelynn knows how to compete. He plays all the way until the buzzer sounds for real.
