June 5th-7th I attended the 18th annual Best in Basketball Summer Invitational at Mesquite HS in Gilbert/AZ.

There were 28 local teams who played in one to five showcase games.

Here is the All-Tournament 7th Team:

[player_tooltip player_id='2466071' first='Nick' last='Appenzeller'] Desert Edge

A skilled and cerebral power forward with a high feel for the game. He is a plus rebounder in his area and he will block shots. He can step out and shoot the three with confidence and he is a surprisingly really good passer for position.

[player_tooltip player_id='2574815' first='Garrison' last='Bambolo'] Willow Canyon

A long wing forward with size and skill. He is playing more and more from inside and out and utilizing his length. He will post up and score with quick moves to the basket but still face up and shoot it from the perimeter. He will score with offensive rebound put backs and should have a big year.

[player_tooltip player_id='2146280' first='Taj' last='Deloney'] Mesquite

A pass first point guard is a blur in the open court. When the lefty is making his open shot, he very tough to cover since he will burst past you at any moment. He uses his speed in the open court and absorbs contact well at the rim. He will drive and kick to a teammate and he consistently puts pressure on the defense to make a play.

[player_tooltip player_id='2432568' first='Cyler' last='Jessup'] Valley Christian

A good sized combo guard seems to keep growing. He had a breakout game with downhill takes and scores it with floaters and layups. He will hit the three off the catch and was in the passing lanes using his length and had some deflections and steals that led to scores on the other end.

[player_tooltip player_id='2156657' first='Liam' last='Pavey'] Sandra Day O'Connor

A combo guard who can play on or off the ball. He scores it multiple ways with threes off the catch, he smartly cuts to the basket and he can create some offense off the dribble. He is a good passer and he will be one of their main weapons next year with six seniors graduating.

[player_tooltip player_id='2763998' first='Jacai' last='Reed'] Williams Field

A scoring point guard with deep three point range. He can score with quick drives using his tighter handle with his left or right hand. He plays off of two-feet and will fall away from mid-range and will drive and kick it to a teammate.

[player_tooltip player_id='2466706' first='Mehki' last='Storkel'] Desert Edge (Pictured)

A bigger combo guard who can score from inside and out. He will score with off the dribble jumpers and uses his body and height to score it inside. He is a good passer up the court and off the of the pick and roll action. His size allows him to gain some advantages on both ends of the court.

[player_tooltip player_id='2552792' first='Mason' last='Tamlyn'] Valley Christian

A scoring point guard is a little undersized but he is a good on-ball defender. He scores it with a nice layup package inside using a very quick first step and a burst to get into the teeth of the defense. He handles ball pressure well with his tighter handle.

[player_tooltip player_id='2550840' first='Austin' last='Turner'] Higley

A point forward type with athleticism and size. He is a natural finisher in traffic as he takes contact well with his wiry strong frame. He rebounds well with his size and springs up quickly to block shots. He takes very little strides to get to the basket and knows how to hesitate to keep the defense off balance.

[player_tooltip player_id='1697291' first='Amare' last='Runyon'] Sandra Day O'Connor

A bigger forward is the teams post player who takes up some space and will control the glass with his size and length. He will score on put backs and he can handle the ball to back his man down to score. He has improved steadily little by little.

[player_tooltip player_id='2559538' first='Notorious' last='Street'] San Tan Charter

A defensive minded point guard is a good passer as he threaded the needle multiple times. He had some impressive full court passes in stride and collected a bunch of steals and rebounds with a big motor. He is very good in transition and will jet past his defenders for layups.

[player_tooltip player_id='2755925' first='Aidan' last='Whitaker'] McClintock

Another transfer from who came over from Saguaro. He is a thicker framed wing who can shoot the three and from mid-range. He uses his impressive build to rebound and score it inside as he happens to be a Power-4 WR with high major offers already.

June 5th-7th I attended the 18th annual Best in Basketball Summer Invitational at Mesquite HS in Gilbert/AZ.
