June 5th-7th I attended the 18th annual Best in Basketball Summer Invitational at Mesquite HS in Gilbert/AZ.

There were 28 local teams who played in one to five showcase games.

Here is the All-Tournament 4th Team:

[player_tooltip player_id='2194808' first='Carter' last='Bagley'] St. Mary's

The thicker framed wing forward is highly skilled. He will score with fall ways off the dribble, mid-range jumpers and threes off the catch. He smartly cuts off the ball with some back door buckets and inside with put backs and hook shots. He rebounds well in his area and he is improving as an on-ball defender.

[player_tooltip player_id='2295695' first='Matt' last='Crowder'] Casteel

A strong framed defensive shooting guard. He plays the passing lanes well to collect steals which usually lead to layups on the other end. He scores with threes and gets to the basket with his tighter handle. He takes contact well and had multiple and-1's.

[player_tooltip player_id='2717233' first='Travon' last='Darby'] Red Mountain

A full starting five gone except Travon. He is their lead dog and he makes plays as a bigger point guard. He sees the play developing quickly and throws the dime. He makes shots from the perimeter and tough scores in the paint.

[player_tooltip player_id='2295694' first='Ben' last='Gruver'] Casteel

A bigger guard rebounds well for positon and can score with quick drives to the rim or threes off the catch. He is a long strider to get to the basket using his new size. He can also play iso-ball and go to work with step thrus and pull-ups from mid-range.

[player_tooltip player_id='1633033' first='Jackson' last='Heim'] Seton Catholic Prep (Pictured)

A high motored combo forward had a breakout weekend. He rebounds well in his area and will score multiple ways. He likes the mid-range pull-up, he will post up and rip thru to the rim. He can take a ball off the glass and go coast to coast. He is also a good defender inside with blocks and rebounds.

[player_tooltip player_id='2533594' first='CJ' last='Johnson'] Desert Edge

The incoming freshman took the reigns of the 5A school and showed some glimpses of what he can be. He scores with catch threes, mid-range jumpers, which looks to be his sweet spot, and reverse layups to the basket. He can create his own offense off the dribble and dunk it on the break. He really is a great passer with either hand and looks to be one of the better 2029 PG's.

[player_tooltip player_id='2552737' first='Jaden' last='Morgan'] Desert Edge

The Sunrise Mountain transfer scored it every way from inside and out. He scores with threes off the catch and mid-range jumpers but then will get inside with spin moves, hook shots and tough in-traffic and-1's. He is efficient and had some man rebounds deep in the paint.

[player_tooltip player_id='1571924' first='Sir' last='Myles'] Casteel

The undersized scoring point guard is super athletic and comes with skill. The ball is on a string for him and he can get to his spots. He can hit the three off the catch with range and he has a quick burst to drive it and will dunk it on the break showing off his bounce. He is a good passer and he is a strong on-ball defender.

[player_tooltip player_id='1758975' first='Nash' last='Parmley'] Sunnyslope

The bigger wing is a perfect compliment to their big-4 as he is a catch and shoot three point sniper with a super quick release. He will score with offensive rebound put backs and he is being way more aggressive. He will rebound and block shots plus he is a smart passer.

[player_tooltip player_id='1482163' first='Cristian' last='Simmons'] Sunnyslope

Arguably the top sixth man in the AIA gets a lot of starter minutes with skill, size and activity. He has great hands to catch tough passes inside to score and will hit the three with deep range. He rebounds well and will score with put backs. He will rip thru and stays in motion off the ball for easy points.

[player_tooltip player_id='1875718' first='Melvin' last='Stubbs Jr'] Sandra Day O'Connor

A versatile wing forward came over from Catalina Foothills. He plays like a point forward and made some perfect passes that led to scores. He will score with plus body control on the break, off the ball dunks cutting to the rim, fall aways off the glass and will get downhill to the rim. He makes his money on defense with blocks and gets two or threes deflections or steals a game.

[player_tooltip player_id='1490240' first='Colton' last='Watson'] Sandra Day O'Connor

A bigger point forward type seems to defend every position in the AIA as he usually starts off on the toughest opponent. He uses his size, big wingspan and strong frame to defend plus get downhill to score. He will get on the glass for tip-ins and hit the three. He also gets to the free throw line often.
