June 5th-7th I attended the 18th annual Best in Basketball Summer Invitational at Mesquite HS in Gilbert/AZ.

There were 28 local teams who played in one to five showcase games.

Here is the All-Tournament 3rd Team:

[player_tooltip player_id='2457665' first='Viktor' last='Babic'] Perry

The bigger wing forward is a top of the food chain shooter off the catch from the three point line. He had 24 points in one half with six triples in a row. The lefty gets the ball out of his hands so cleanly with perfect ball rotation. He will give a hard ball fake and takes very few strides to get to the basket and his jab step is tough to defend. He is a good passer and rebounds well and boxes out like you should.

[player_tooltip player_id='2223522' first='Kolby' last='Barnes'] Perry

The bigger point guard has a smooth handle with some speed with the ball. He is a good defender on the ball using his size and length. He will make the extra pass finding all his teammates in stride and plays off of the pick and roll game well. He scores with threes and quick takes to the basket.

[player_tooltip player_id='2717324' first='Chops' last='Davis'] Gilbert

The Higley transfer scoring guard showed what he can do right away. He was rattling in threes off the catch one by one. He actually hit four straight in one game as he keeps improving his shooting. He can get on the glass to score on put backs with his quick second jumping and athleticism.

[player_tooltip player_id='1570935' first='Kyler' last='Frye'] McClintock

A quick scoring lead guard can score with blow by's to the paint and make tough takes off the dribble with his deceptively quick first step. He has quick hands on defense and he actually got out on the break and threw one down. He is a smart extra passer to find teammates and a true gamer when games are on the line to take the ball.

[player_tooltip player_id='2146269' first='Daijon' last='Grayson'] Mesa

One of the faster defensive point guards is stretching out and growing. He is a perfect running mate to [player_tooltip player_id='1651788' first='Jakyi' last='Miles']. He loves getting to the basket and turning the corner on his defender with his tight handle and speed. He will throw the lob and can catch the lob to score but he is lightning quick and a great on-ball defender to pester his opponents.

[player_tooltip player_id='2386978' first='Jaydon' last='Hayes'] Willow Canyon

A thicker farmed scoring guard is a tough cover. He can shoot it from mid-range to the three point line but he is hyper aggressive to the basket. He seems to get to the free throw line in bunches and usually cashes in with some clutch moments too. He will defend his man and rebound the ball.

[player_tooltip player_id='1900362' first='Colby' last='Jessup'] Valley Christian

The go-to guy for this year's team is Colby. The bigger combo guard plays on the ball a lot but can come off the ball and fire away. He will score with off the dribble and catch threes with a super fast trigger. He can euro step downhill and he is an improving rebounder with his stronger frame. He unfortunately got injured and sat in the last game.

[player_tooltip player_id='2291976' first='Collin' last='Kvamme'] Campo Verde

The scoring lead guard can go on his own personal runs. The lefty has deep range on his three point shooting but can score getting to the basket. He uses his first step to get inside to score with euro steps and tough drives thru contact. He is quick in passing lanes and will lay it in on the other end after the steal.

[player_tooltip player_id='2295693' first='Maddox' last='Lazor'] Basha

The big man controlled the paint all weekend. He is a top of the food chain rebounder and carves out space to corral the ball. He has a high motor to rebound and stays active throughout the play. He moves well in space and has the size and frame to bang with the best post players in the AIA. He gets himself to the FT line often with his activity and score it around the rim.

[player_tooltip player_id='1620346' first='Joshua' last='McManaway'] McClintock

A good sized scoring guard can score it inside more and more as he is aging. He will still rattle in threes off the catch and will score with back door cuts, floaters and he will create his own offense off the dribble. He is a sneaky good passer and a great rebounder per usual. He will even block a shot and is ready to roll his senior year.

[player_tooltip player_id='2280453' first='Iyzaya' last='Soto'] McClintock

The son of a coach is very cerebral and comes with a clip. He has deep three point range and gets the ball out super quickly. He will pull-up off the dribble and can get to the basket. He is very quick with the ball but smartly move without it to free himself up.

[player_tooltip player_id='2386977' first='Kyle' last='Speed Jr'] Gilbert

A wing forward who plays with one of the top motors in the class or even AIA. He is an out of area rebounder and will block shots. He is tough to grab rebounds around him with his reach, athleticism and desire. He will score on put backs and has a tight handle to get to his spots. He will hit the three off the catch and brings endless energy each game.
