Pro 16 Memphis: Saturday Standouts

The Pro 16 League had some intense competition this weekend in Memphis with 17 U action between top circuit members all day long. In this article I'll break down the standouts I caught from across the country.    One of my favorite players to watch compete on both ends of the court, Walker is a winner from the lead guard position. Whether it's getting scrappy offensive rebounds, making the extra pass to a teammate or defending on the ball, Walker is doing things that don't always show up on the stat sheet. A couple of my favorite players from Walker included a fly by sidestep jumper and a strong drive and finish with 20 seconds left to put his team up three points in the closing moments. It's no surprise with how productive Walker was in both games that [program_tooltip program_id='2076166' first='Grand' last='Park Premier'] went 2-0 on Saturday with a pair of impressive performances.     Known more as a football prospect, Elmore is getting busy this weekend on the hardwood as well. I saw some of his football skills when [program_tooltip program_id='2076166' first='Grand' last='Park Premier'] would throw entry passes to Elmore as he attacked the ball in the air and usually found himself in position to score after controlling the pass. A wing forward who will post up smaller defenders, Elmore uses his strength to overpower smaller defenders on the interior. Wanting to play above the rim, Elmore had a couple strong dunks and almost caught a body against a defender trying to take a charge. Fun player to watch who has the potential to be a standout performer this year during both the fall and winter seasons.     One of the biggest stock risers on the Puma Circuit nationally this grassroots season, Sancomb has taken his game to another level. Athletically is where I think Sancomb has taken the biggest jump as he looks quicker and stronger than the player I watched a year ago at the 16 U level. When you combine those athletic gains with exceptional passing ability and soft touch at the rim and Sancomb is one of the most impressive offensive engines on the Pro 16 circuit. Few players can execute half the passes Sancomb threw this weekend as he was fooling the defense consistently when he passed the ball. With the pace that West Virginia Gold play with, Sancomb got a bunch of open 3-point looks, which he converted at an efficient rate. Already holding three Division I offers, I expect Sancomb to have a few more in the coming weeks if he continues to play at this level.     Pratt was a welcome addition back with West Virginia Gold as he provides a unique dynamic as a combo guard who can play on or off the ball and create shots for himself. Creative off the dribble, Pratt is tough player to stay in front of because of his quickness and pull-up shooting ability. While Pratt is most known as a scorer, his scoring ability makes life on his teammates easier due to his gravity and passing ability. Holding a handful of Division I offers, Pratt will be a player low to mid major programs have their eyes on during the May live period next weekend.     I had a battle between Funches and Collin Ross circled on my calendar from the moment I saw the schedule drop and the match-up lived up to the hype. Funches does a nice job getting to his right shoulder where he can score using his left hand at the rim. Once he does that, Funches uses his elite passing ability to punish the defense for ever sending a double team his way. Defensively, Funches protected the rim without fouling and grabbed a bunch of defensive rebounds that finished stops for his team. My first time watching Funches in person and it was extremely obvious why he's a high major target and regarded as one of the top bigs in the country.
