Phenom 336 Showcase: Biggest Standouts

It was one of Phenom Hoops' smaller events of the season, but it was still a great chance to check out some of North Carolina's top programs. King is as advertised with his ability to handle, finish, and shoot with both hands. However, he also has the feel, energy level, and leadership to lead a team from the Point Guard position. He is a microwave scorer, capable of taking over a game in an instant. Karon did just that in their opener, hitting a left-corner three, a one-dribble pull-up, and a left-corner three all in quick succession. Watlington also has a good handle and favors a behind-the-back dribble in traffic. However, he looked even better on Saturday at the Phenom 336 Showcase. He knocked down four threes, showing an elite stroke in catch-and-shoot spots, but he also displayed tremendous athleticism with transition finishes and helpside rim protection. He opened up the scoring with a transition step-back three and continued to display that feel for scoring throughout the game. Jadon is a quick-twitch athlete who excels at beating his defender off the dribble. He is also a creative finisher, has a deadly pump fake, can pull up efficiently in the mid-range, and even makes incisive passes through a defense. Rouse played with this ball in his hands a lot more than I have seen from him in previous occasions, but he was still scoring-minded. He did a good job of manipulating defenders with his handle and with his eyes, creating space for his teammates or his own shots. Despite his smaller frame, Thomas is a good finisher at the rim, displaying that with finishes around and through defenders.
