PH Live: 15U Versatile Playmakers

Let's break down some of the players who performed well on both ends of the floor over this weekend at the Prep Hoops Live Event in Batavia, IL.    A long wing that gets in the action of the play. Impressed mostly by his motor and energy he came with throughout the early morning game Saturday. Defensively can cover 1 – 4 because of his foot speed and physicality. Multiple rebounds defensively and remains active crashing the boards on O. Offensively can finish through contact. Had an And1 and a reverse layup take on the base to go along with a couple spot up 3's. Possesses good vision with the ball. Made a block and then pitch ahead for an assist from 3 ball land in transition and a backdoor pass assist.     This was my second time getting to see him play through the Spring season. He may be a bit undersized because he plays up an age but he knows how to put the ball in the basket. Has quick hands and came away with a steal in the backcourt to convert on an easy bucket. Moves feet well guarding on the ball. Works well in the transition phase and has good court vision. Sees openings for multiple pitch ahead passes to beat the defense down the floor. Shoots it at a high clip whether dribbling into his 3 or spotting up off the catch. Can tell he loves to play the game.     Caught the last game of the day for squad on Saturday in team's win. A springy wing that plays aggressive with poised determination and competitiveness. Defensively was active. Had a steal with a finish in the back court and another takeaway in the half court set. Made a block in the paint to get a transition pitch ahead bucket. Speeds the game up. Converted on multiple breakaway baskets going coast to coast or dishing off for an assist. Offensively can shoot from 3 and remained active on the glass for an O board and putback. Moved without the ball for a cut and finish at the rim. Solid IQ with good vision and feel for the game.     Plays the 1 or 2 spots on the team dependent if the other guard is on the floor at the same time. Quick footed with high energy in a lot of phases. Likes to get out and run with crafty handles. Made some great passes throughout whether it was a pitch ahead in transition, a swing pass for an assist on a 3, a hard on the rope skip pass over the zone, or a post feed down low for an assist. Shares the rock accordingly and makes teammates better by getting everyone involved. Plays the game really up tempo.     Is the other half to the unselfish back court on Team Lockdown. Would describe his style as a quick scrappy and skillful guard with smart IQ. Outran the defense on the primary break phase in transition whether with the ball or not and had a high successful conversion rate in those opportunities. Pulled up for mid range game off dribble or got to the cup in the ½ court setting. After D boarding, pushed it ahead and liked to play fast. Drew contact in the paint on drives to get to the stripe. Made a nice flair screen read and a few dish off for assists. Swung the ball efficiently against the zone.     Caught his last game of the day on Sunday. Played with a lot of grit and toughness to edge out a hard-fought win. Filled the 4- or 5-man role and had to earn his keep playing against more athleticism in the paint. Used his length to his advantaged. Impressed with driving ability to draw contact on takes to the rim and his movement off the ball. Had a nice cut in the paint to retrieve it and finish and another hard slash off an EOB to finish. Faired well overall and tallied him for 10 points in the game.
